Review Ridiculous Movies That Make You Smile!

Janine The Barefoot

I'm in need of a boost and a new list of source material to add to my list of ridiculous movies that always make me smile... even though I should be smarter or more sophisticated than that....

And for the record, I'm not including Monty Python because as @chainsaw_metal1 knows....
I can already recite most of the dialog by heart!

To kick it off (and don't feel like numbers matter at all):

Tremors
Galaxy Quest
Death at a Funeral
Easy A
Tucker & Dale vs. Evil

Have fun and as always, thanks for "playing along"!

:emoji_kiss::emoji_dancer: And DBs because the thought of them dancing through the desert of Tremors makes me laugh in general! :emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers:

I'm certainly familiar with GALAXY QUEST and TREMORS - not to mention the collected works of MONTY PYTHON.

As for other films that always make me smile, let's begin with...

FLYING HIGH (1980)

FLYING HIGH 2 (1982)

THE NAKED GUN: FROM THE FILES OF POLICE SQUAD! (1988)

THE NAKED GUN 2½: THE SMELL OF FEAR (1991)

NAKED GUN 33⅓: THE FINAL INSULT (1994)

And if you're a fan of MONTY PYTHON, may I also recommend...

A FISH CALLED WANDA (1988)

FIERCE CREATURES (1997)

TIME BANDITS (1981)

BRAZIL (1985)

THE ADVENTURES OF BARON MUNCHAUSEN (1988)

Oh AM..... I saw Airplane at the drive-in when it first came out and it was the first of it's kind "spoof" movies. After that, I just got more and more tired of the cliche's. I'm afraid after the first Naked Gun I just gave up on the genre entirely......

But Brazil was wacky Fish was fabulous Creatures was creative and I must confess to leaving the theater for Time Bandits.....
embarrassing to admit given it's cult status but I never really got the appeal.

I will however..... go "Flying" as I've heard of neither and can't wait to see what's "up" with them!

It's okay, Janine, if we agreed on everything, life would be boring. It's our differences that make it interesting. Besides, we already have some common ground on the subject, so it's a beginning. :emoji_wink:

And actually... AIRPLANE is FLYING HIGH.

It's the title those films have in Australia - and possibly elsewhere outside of America. I'm not sure why they change the titles of films from one country to the next, especially countries that are otherwise quite similar in their culture and language and have a shared history. :emoji_confused:

I had no idea they did that! But Flying High/Airplane is and, to me, will remain one of the most funny, creative, inventive movies of that era. It spawned a whole generation of films that never quite seemed to live up to it's brilliance.....

But then.... "I probably picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue"! My timing has always been a bit questionable!

:emoji_kiss::emoji_dancer: And for revisiting Airplane :emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers:

Here are my movies that will, no matter what, put a smile on my face and make me feel less like stabbing myself in the throat. I'll do my best not to have repeats, as many of the ones already mentioned would make this list.

Duck Soup
A Night At The Opera
A Day At The Races
Room Service (not the best Marx Brothers movie, but it has huge sentimental value to me)
Help!
Young Frankenstein
Army of Darkness
The Kentucky Fried Movie (I need a new copy of this, since I no longer have a working VCR)
Deadpool
The Producers (Mel Brooks, Zero Mostel, and Gene Wilder - If you don't love this movie, you have no soul - which is weird, because I have no soul - Irony)

Hope those help. And more spirit animal juju! :emoji_bear::emoji_bear::emoji_bear::emoji_bear::emoji_bear::emoji_bear::emoji_bear::emoji_bear::emoji_bear::emoji_bear::emoji_bear::emoji_bear::emoji_bear::emoji_bear::emoji_bear::emoji_bear:

The Party (1968)
And when I watch Death at a Funeral, I always watch Eulogy (2004) after that.
St. Trinian's (2007)
Erik the Viking (1989)
Stiff Upper Lips (1998)
Strictly Balroom (1992)
I'd just like to say to those who haven't seen it, STRICTLY BALLROOM is a very misleading title... :emoji_angry:

And now, virtually my entire system for viewing has been shut down because the Dish Network is suing KODI (which is a website for a platform that allows you to add-on programs you can use to watch anything on TV or film for free via the internet.

Amazon (the rat-bastards) are in on this as well as the total collapse of IMDb which is what sent most of us to this site in the first place.

In any case, in order to watch anything at all on anyone's lists (including my own) I think I'm going to have to take KODI down and build a new system from scratch. Then I'll probably have to get a pay service that hides what you watch from your ISP completely by providing random computer ID#'s that defeat Comcast's ability to follow what I stream. And for the record, I don't stream anything live so "technically" it's not illegal, it's just that I'm not paying a corporation for what I watch, I'm paying for internet service and that has gone up almost $50.00 in just under 2 years.

Have I mentioned that I am neither of the guys who set this site up and am going to have to learn how to "build" this based on what instructions I can find online? The platforms, programs and addons are out there.... I'm just not certain I have enough knowledge to really get it done.... yet! But until then, I'm cut off from anything released within the last 5 years or so and I don't know if I can get movies to stream at all yet. The addon I'm using is an old one and all the sources are DVDs that have been uploaded by individuals over the years so not all the streams are still active and some of the ones that are take so much buffering time that a 90 minute show can take 2 hours to watch.

ghaaaaaack! (engage the "vomit" emoji) :emoji_money_mouth: .... think about The Exorcist and the mass ejection of pea soup!

Here's hoping I can make the boys proud and do a "build" for myself that will actually function so I can get some real viewing back!

:emoji_kiss::emoji_dancer:....... now, something for luck in programming..... :emoji_ghost::emoji_ghost::emoji_ghost::emoji_ghost::emoji_ghost::emoji_ghost::emoji_ghost::emoji_ghost::emoji_ghost::emoji_ghost::emoji_ghost::emoji_ghost::emoji_ghost::emoji_ghost::emoji_ghost::emoji_ghost::emoji_ghost::emoji_ghost:

Why not a crazy little space alien? It's at least somewhat appropriate for what I'm going to try and turn myself into........ I hope?!

Don't you have any free-to-air TV networks in the USA?

In Australia, we have the ABC with 4 channels, SBS with 4 channels approx, then the commercial networks Seven, Nine and Ten, all with 3 or 4 channels each. There is pay TV, but I think it struggles a bit because not many Aussies believe you should have to pay for what you watch. That's why there are commercials. Personally, I'd buy the DVD box-set before I'd spend a penny on pay TV.

And then there's YouTube and a few other free internet "TV channels"...

What we have is called "Project Free TV" which you can gain access to buy purchasing a $150.00 antenna, mounting it on your roof and then somehow connecting it to your TV. This will give you access only to what is available in your own specific location so it could be as few as 3 channels or as many as 15 but there's no guarantee they'll work all the time and they probably won't include any major networks. You Tube isn't included in the service.

I could probably get around it by programming my laptop the way my Amazon Fire TV is programmed and then connect my laptop to my TV with an HD cable link but the computer has more pixels than the TV does and the picture suffers dramatically as a result.

Isn't YouTube free?

I just use my laptop or one of my Playstations to access it. Either a 3 or a 4. It's just a free downloadable application.

Yup, in fact I was playing a documentary I found on YouTube but wanted to watch on our TV which is why I know that connecting an HDMI cable to my laptop and the TV results in an inferior picture on the TV. Clear and beautiful on the laptop, grainy and dark on the TV.

The problem is that although you can get YouTube on an android box, you can't access any full-length TV shows or movies they have up on the site. Hence my connecting it to the TV for a doc. on climbing K-2.

Sounds like you need to get yourself a Playstation. Even a second-hand PS3 will do the trick. Just connect it to your TV and away you go.

I prefer to watch YouTube on my widescreen HD digital TV than on a shitty little computer screen...

Sounds like you need to get yourself a Playstation.
Before I go buy anything new I'm going to install some new repositories that haven't been shut down and grab some new addons from them.

And check this.... It turns out that it's Dish Network who has been successfully sued because they were using the Fed. Govt. "Do Not Call List" as a source from which to get new consumers! They owe something like 24-25 billion $ to individuals they've called and harassed by using a list created by the Feds to prevent retailers from doing exactly what they did. If a person is on the DNCL (and I am) all you have to do is tell anyone who calls you for whatever reason, to sell you something or tell you you've won something or to promote a political agenda.... that you are on the list and they are required by law to remove you from their call list and tell you they have done so.

This is the list that Dish was using to go after new consumers! So a class-action lawsuit was filed against them, they lost and then decided to retaliate by going after websites that provide internet access TV viewing via an android type box that connects your TV to your ISP. Hence the shut-down of one of the most popular methods of media viewing in the country. Which is also why they are dragging the Feds into it; because corporate America wants to squeeze the population for every penny they can get out of them and anything that gets in the way of that has got to be stopped and/or eliminated.

For the first time in my life I almost wish I had serious hacking skills..... Cause:

Hack the planet baby!!!!!! Would be my new war cry.......... :emoji_rolling_eyes: :emoji_scream: :emoji_shrug: What can I say? The Feds suck.... and not in a good way like my Dyson vacuum does either!

:emoji_kiss::emoji_dancer: For hackers everywhere....:emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers::emoji_dancers:

We have - or had - a Do Not Call List here is Australia for telemarketers, but it wasn't very effective. So I just set my landline to Do Not Disturb. That does the trick. Mind you, that means that every couple of months I have to try and remember to check the blinking light to see if there are any important calls on there... :emoji_wink:

I think I last did that about six months ago.
