I wonder how long this franchise will go on?

“Walking Dead” To Crossover Next Year
AMC’s “The Walking Dead” and its spin-off “Fear the Walking Dead” are set to come together in a key way next year.
Creator Robert Kirkman, appearing at New York Comic-Con on Saturday, revealed that a character from one show will crossover to the other series.
Which character going to which show though is unclear and Kirkman says don’t expect any further information for a few months yet. As ‘Fear’ serves as a prequel, how much of a time difference there is between the series isn’t clear.
“Fear” launched in 2015 as a prequel to “Walking Dead.” The “Fear” storyline follows two families at the outset of the zombie apocalypse. “Walking Dead,” which bowed in 2010, follows the struggles of survivors trying not to become “walkers” long after the country has been overrun by the undead.
“Fear the Walking Dead” wraps its third season on October 15th, while “The Walking Dead” begins its eighth season on October 22nd.

I'm just about finished with season 6, and it's been really good, in my humble opinion. I would just like to state, I wish they had stayed closer to the comics in one aspect, and had Carol die early on. I really hate her.

George Romero originally envisaged a world where the zombie virus dies out and people stop returning to life after they die! That was his Day of The Dead ending but instead he left that bit out! Would be great to see that be adapted to the world of Rick Grimes when the show eventually winds down in the future...

“Walking Dead” S8 Premiere Ratings Drop
This past weekend saw AMC’s “The Walking Dead” return with its 100th episode kicking off the show’s eighth season. It was an episode that also posted the series’ lowest premiere ratings since its third year.
Live+Same Day results indicate the series averaged a 5.0 rating in adults 18-49 and 11.4 million total viewers on Sunday night. That’s a 40% and 33% respective drop compared to last season’s premiere.
That last season premiere was the culimnation of a famed cliffhanger and so it getting larger numbers isn’t a surprise – by how much though is a bit concerning. Here’s a history of how previous “Walking Dead” season premieres have rated:
Season 1 (2.7, 5.35 million)
Season 2 (3.8, 7.26 million)
Season 3 (5.8, 10.86 million)
Season 4 (8.2, 16.11 million)
Season 5 (8.7, 17.29 million)

Due to its massive fanbase, “The Walking Dead” is one of the only show that can experience such a steep decline and still remain the number one show on television in the key demo along with performing well on social media.

AMC Hints At Decades-Long “Walking Dead” Run
Despite a bit of a ratings slide, AMC’s “The Walking Dead” remains TV’s biggest show in terms of ratings – and a major source of income for the network.
However while speaking with Wall Street analysts (via Deadline), AMC CEO Josh Sapan may have taken his optimism and confidence in the franchise a little bit too far saying that there’s no plans to end the series anytime soon and no shortage of plans to milk the franchise for all its worth.
He even hints at the franchise having a life for not just years, but maybe even decades to come:
“The use of the word ‘franchise,’ we don’t take lightly. It’s not a sloppy or casual word. We’ve studied the best. Some have been around 30, 40, 50 years. We have a chance for a lot of life in the franchise. [It is] in great shape and the people who are managing that great shape are motivated.”
He also added to expect more gaming, merchandising and virtual reality opportunities tied to the franchise in the near future. The show recently launched its eighth season on AMC.

The fans will end it when they've truly had enough! The Negan battleground thing is already getting a little stale. Let's hope it's all tied up by the end of this season and next year we get Negan join Rick in his next conflict with the zombie-like Whisperers!

With the first half of the eighth season of AMC’s “The Walking Dead” over, the news is only bad for the zombie drama as the recent batch of episodes averaged a 3.9 and 8.7 million viewers per episode – a major drop from the 5.7 and 12.1 million viewers per episode average of the previous season’s first half.
The recent eighth season finale averaged a 3.4 rating in adults 18-49 and 7.9 million viewers in Nielsen Live+Same Day ratings – the show’s lowest-rated midseason finale since its second season back in 2011 which drew a 3.5 and 6.6 million viewers.
Despite the drop, the midseason finale was by far the top-rated show of the night and after show “Talking Dead” came in second with a 1.4 rating and 3.4 million viewers.

Can't say I was happy with the mid-season break last week. The show has definitely jumped the shark now after the final scene of episode eight! Everything on television today is done for ratings and damn the storylines! Especially when the same thing didn't happen in the comics, well it did but to another character who apparently is jumping ship to the other show instead! Very bad decision I'm feeling...

AMC has announced that the #1 show on television for the last six seasons, its zombie drama “The Walking Dead,” has been renewed for a ninth season to premiere later this year.
Additionally, current showrunner Scott M. Gimple is being promoted to CCO overseeing the entire ‘Dead’ franchise including “Fear the Walking Dead” and other works. As a result of this move, co-executive producer Angela Kang is being promoted to executive producer and taking over as showrunner next season.
“The Walking Dead” returns with the back half of its eighth season next month. “Fear the Walking Dead is currently in production on its fourth season to premiere early this year with Lennie James’ Morgan Jones being the first crossover character between the two series.

Maybe the new producer will realise what a big mistake they've made by killing off Carl?

They'll never realize anything as Scott is the primarly responsible for that desition and it was now promoted. I sincerely hope this whole series turns into a massive failure on the 9th season. I quit so many times and tried to resume the series but each time I tried, another good new series comes in and I abandon the walking dead... what does that say about the quality of the series?.
Series I started watching that made me pospone the walking dead are: The new Star Trek Discovery, The Good Place, Silvana sin Lana (excellent latin series), Strong Girl-boon son (almost any korean series of today is far better than TWD, story-wise and character-wise).
The list goes on and on, even The Punisher (while I didn't like the Defenders storyline) is better than TWD.

I tend to watch and love Z nation on Syfy channel. It's funny, different, and have more fun killing zombies. Plus the show doesn't take itself serious, so it never gets boring. The show has been on for 4 years now and changes itself up with each season. Also love the characters on the show, and even some of the side ones as well. Reminds me sort of like Wyrmwood which is another fun zombie movie from over seas.

Z-Nation can be fun but some of the stories are too ridiculous to be true! The Murphy character was the best in the series but then they went ahead and cured him of the virus and his ability to control the zombies and those bitten by him or his creed! Is Z-Nation on the UK SyFy or is it only on the American one? Not that I receive the UK version anyways...

It's from america, and old murph is coming back into his powers slowly. The one with the ICP clowns this season wasn't bad.
BTW Z-nation can be corny it's on Syfy channel which is know for great original movies like Sharknado, Sharktopus, Ghost Shark, Anaconda vs Python, and many great bad movies. That's why I don't take the show serious, and somewhat wished the Zombieland show would have worked in a way.

The main differences between Walking Dead and Z-Nation is the humour concept but also the fact that animals can also become zombies like the bear in season two I think!
