Help me pick my next free DVD

The only one of those I've seen is A Hard Day. I'm not generally a fan of Sun-kyun Lee, he seems to whine his way through most films. But here it works. Fun movie.

I haven't seen any of those films you listed except for A Bittersweet Life which I thought I liked but when I checked on my IMDb rating, I rated it 7 which is low (per my standards). I easily give out 10s. I might revisit it one day.

Please inform me when you'll watch A Quiet Dream so I'll watch it around the same time as yours so we can compare notes.

It'll be about a week before I actually place this order, but YesAsia shipping is pretty quick, so I expect I'll get the Quiet Dream DVD the week of Feb 20, and I'll watch it first thing. Unless it goes on backorder or something.

I've seen A Bittersweet Life and gave it a 3/5 rating, which is probably similar to your 7 of 10. But I like the genre, and I always get a lot out of the Korean DVD special features. At times I go through my "watched list" (yes, I keep a spreadsheet!) and see what I can add to my DVD collection. Since I have a week to think about it, perhaps I will swap it out for a film I rated a little higher.

I enjoyed A Hard Day, The Suspect, and Twenty.
I actually had the Korean DVD version of A Hard Day in my cart from before, so it was already high on my list. Now that I can pick it up as a HK freebie, so much the better. I think that'll be my choice, but I'll research the others just to make sure.

Okay, Feb. 20 that is. I'll remember the date. Re: A Bittersweet Life. I usually can't remember the exact way things happened in movies especially when I've seen them from a long time ago but what I would usually remember is how I reacted on the film. With this one, I think I remember having been majorly disappointed about a plothole disguised as a plot twist.

Damn which bin do I have to scramble to find a copy of M....
Damn, it was almost here:
chopped into ten minute segments, but a few of them have been deleted. It's tough to search for "M" lol

If you search around, search for something like "M Korean Movie"

Ah, thanks yehey!!!! I sure hope there are no "admins" that lurk here right? I remember when we were still in IMDb, you know how I feel like we're just sitting on our couch trashing the films and whatnots and I remember posting a youtube link to a full movie entirely forgetting that the admins were looking. Next thing I know the full movie got deleted. I still am finishing a French movie so I'll watch M probably next week, if the link still exists, that is.

I already tried M Korean Movie, or M Korean movie full english subtitles, or M Korean full movie english, or whatever. Then again, I only have google to rely on. afro.gif

Oh, I only have one convenience store. The most common one (I'm not naming it here because I can't risk it to be gone in case there are admins that read our posts). The most popular one. I searched before and I didn't find it. Just now I checked it and its there already. Someone must have uploaded it these past few months. I checked last year, or that time you recommended it and it still wasn't available. It is there now! Yipee!!!!!

I placed my semi-annual DVD order today. Between Amazon, DeepDiscount, and YesAsia, I have the following Asian DVDs on the way:

Bittersweet Life, A
Cold Eyes
Dance With The Wind
Girl at My Door, A
Going Out
Hard Day, A
Handmaiden, The
Han Gong-ju
House of the Disappeared
I Saw the Devil
Love Clinic
M
Miss Granny
My Brilliant Life
Office
Quiet Dream, A
Secretly, Greatly
Silenced (2011) (not to be confused with the 2015 Korean film "The Silenced")
Sori: Voice from the Heart
Sweet Sex And Love, The
Venus Talk

Woman in the Dunes, The
(Japanese; Criterion)

Plus the one from eBay (A Blind River), which is already on the way.

I know I mentioned watching a couple of these the week of the 20th, but I forgot that week is still Olympics. For the next couple of weeks all I will watch are Olympics. All day (or DVR it); all night. For example, last night I watched mixed curling from midnight to 3:00 am. I woke up at 4:30 to get ready to go to work. Tonight I will watch what I DVR'd today as well as the NBC Prime Time coverage, and then the midnight to morning action as well. Rinse and repeat for the next 16 days or so.

I'm guessing my DVD shipments will come in about the time the Olympics are over, so it should all work out.

Feel free to comment on my Order.

That's hardcore, man.

You've got some wonderful stuff on the way. Even what I would call stinkers like Bittersweet Life and I Saw the Devil, will be fun and good to watch. A lot of folks liked them and it's good to have them under your belt.

If you wanted to arrange for an ol' timey group watch, Woman in the Dunes is one of those films I never watched but wish I had. Are you just upgrading to the Criterion or have you not seen it?

Outside of M, I think Venus Talk might be my favorite of the list ... but I haven't seen all of them.

Girl at My Door, A - very good
Going Out - not seen, but I want to
Hard Day, A - very good
Handmaiden, The - solid
Han Gong-ju - awesome but quite disturbing
House of the Disappeared - boring
I Saw the Devil - a bit of style over substance but I like it a lot

M - good
Miss Granny - good
My Brilliant Life - bleh; too sappy and too damn long
Office - very good slow-burn; I think it's under-appreciated
Quiet Dream, A - very good
Secretly, Greatly - watchable fluff
Silenced (2011) - awesome but quite disturbing

You slept for only 1.5 hours last night? I don't think I'll be able to handle work with that amount of sleep.

I think you've got a solid list even I haven't seen plenty of those.

I love I Saw the Devil (which is NOT a stinker!!!!) and thought it was a masterpiece. I was impressed by Lee Byung-hun's performance in it so I made a follow-up with A Bittersweet Life but did not meet the standards. There's a scissoring in The Handmaiden which leaves a bad taste to the mouth so I'm not sure if I'm still willing to watch it again. Probably when I've forgotten about the plot completely. I enjoyed House of the Disappeared and thought it would make my top whatever list. I am eyeing Miss Granny and Woman in the Dunes too so I'll add them to my watchlist.

I will be watching M in the next couple of days so I'm glad that the Feb. 20 movie date is moved as I also don't think I could watch A Quiet Dream by then.

Yeah, I'll be getting very little sleep the next couple of weeks. I'm really weird about the Olympics. For four years I have no interest in winter sports. NONE. I'm a huge sports fan when it comes to football and baseball (and, to a lesser extent, basketball), but I'd rather gargle shards of glass than watch any sort of "winter sport" on TV.

However, when the Olympics roll around, I just can't get enough of it. (Except for hockey. I still won't watch hockey.) But I'll be watching the hell out of everything else. I especially love short-track speed skating (aka "demolition derby on ice") and the biathlon (you ski cross country and then shoot stuff--they even make you carry your rifle on your back. What's not to like?). And all those sports where you start at the top of a hill and then see who makes it down fastest (various types of skiing, luge, bobsled, skeleton, etc.). And curling is just...mezmerizing.
