This was Fritz Lang's most favored film, with a breakout role for Peter Lorre. It was One of Goebbel's favorite films for its lack of sentimentality, but was banned in Germany after Lang fled to America. It's available in its entirety on Youtube.
This quiet little gem is out of print in North America so I ordered it specially from Korea. Unfortunately my (at the time) Japanese teacher "borrowed" the DVD I bought in Japan so it's been 15 years before I got to see it again.
