Review Asimov - The Black Widowers

I always enjoyed Asimov's mysteries, but I felt the Black Widower stuff too often relied on some fairly obscure trivia that I, as a non American from a different era to him struggled with. Mostly it was stuff that I would have had to research to find out (like the original lyrics to Yankee...

    Fun Star Trek: Discovery (2017)

As fantastic as an anthology series sounds, I can understand why CBS would prefer an ongoing series. An anthology means new sets and a new cast every year. And you run the risk of viewers not sticking with the show when the cast changes. An ongoing story means you can lock in the cast for a set...

    Review Flatliners (2017)

That's a very optimistic outlook. It's more likely that a remake of a mediocre film will either be mediocre or just plain bad.

Even with the gender switch I can't see this working in this day and age.

    Fun The Terminator Franchise!

I don't know. There's been a significant amount of technological advancement since the original Cameron movies and, if done right, as an absolute reboot (not just a modern remake) there's enough social commentary that could make a new movie (perhaps even a trilogy) work. But it would have to...

    Controversial Political Correctness

It was pretty clear from both the director and Sony that they really didn't want to make a Fantastic Four movie. So they made a movie that contained just enough FF elements to ensure they retained the rights but enough differences to ensure no one would actually see it as FF. Hence, the cast...

Sarek seems to have been very forgetful about his children. That's two he's forgotten to ever mention.

    Controversial Political Correctness

There was an element of that I think, but having watched the movie (under duress) I felt that, with the right script, Jordan could have been a good choice for the character.

    Fun Star Trek: Enterprise

Actually I thought it much more appropriate that the Vulcans would keep something like that hidden. Its the sort of thing that would be a source of shame to them - loss of emotional control - and not something publicly proclaimed. And it's not like humans and Vulcans were working together on...

    Controversial Political Correctness

I generally don't have a problem with gender (or race) blind casting. I'd much prefer that they found the best person to play the role and tell the story the way the director wants to tell it. And sometimes a gender or race swap in a lead role can enable the story to be seen through a different...

    Fun Star Trek: Enterprise

Query - Minefield introduces the Romulans, complete with a penetrable cloaking field, and we've seen the Enterprise encounter other cloaked vessels. But in TOS Balance of Terror, the cloaking device of the Romulans is presented as something new that hadn't been encountered before. And certainly...

    Fun Star Trek: Enterprise

I quite enjoyed Minefield and Dead Stop and then A Night in Sickbay just beat me over the head with the series' flaws once more. Archer takes his dog on a diplomatic mission to a race he knows is easily offended, lets the dog urinate on a sacred site and then gets all pissy when he's asked to...

    Review The "Alien" Franchise

Well regardless of anything you say I'm going to continue my denials. I'm pretty sure it took a lot of alcohol to purge my brain of the first of those movies that never happened!

    Review Gotham (2014)

I'm a big fan of Alexander Siddig. I might have to start watching to see his portrayal of Ra's al Ghul.

    Fun Star Trek: Enterprise

I agree. I can see that, not only about Archer, but about the entire series. It was an attempt to show, pre-Federation times and how humans developed into the society we see in TOS. And conceptually I think it's a great idea. It's just that the writing never seems to be able to make it seem like...

News Stargate: Origins (2018) 15th Feb

Wasn't it established in the original movie that the original finders of the gate couldn't get it to work? If that's the case what's the series going to be about? 10 episodes of them trying to get the gate working? Or they get the gate working and then everyone forgets how it works before the...

    Fun Star Trek: Enterprise

That's what I was thinking at the beginning. However by about halfway through the first season the writers seem to have got into a rut with all the characters and forgotten about further development.
