    Review The McGann Doctor

I managed to catch this spoiler free so my excitement when the camera turned to Paul McGann saying "not the one you're expecting" was huge. Stephen Moffat showed how well he can write. A seven minute episode that was self contained and a true tribute to the 8th Doctor. It also demonstrated how...

    Review Doctor Who Monsters

One of the classic cases of a story concept exceeding the budget and special effects capabilities of the time. It's a great story but the episodes will never live up to what I saw when reading the novelisation.

Review The Sarah Jane Adventures (2007)

I loved it. Definitely targeted at kids but enjoyable none the less. And interestingly, I thought the Slitheen were far better handled in this show than in Doctor Who.

    Review Modern Who Companions

I think Jenna did a great job with the character. Unfortunately the role she was given was very inconsistent from series to series (and sometimes even between episodes).

    Review Torchwood (2006)

I loved it. The first series was a bit hit and miss. Some good episodes and some awful episodes. I thought the second series was much better. More consistent and they started to develop the characters more (especially Ianto). The third series really nailed it. Unfortunately they lost it in the...

    Review Classic Who Companions!

I was in my early teens when I started Doctor Who and Adric was the companion when I started. So I didn't really have much to compare him to. His exit was fairly stunning and, probably (at least partly) because of that I don't have too bad a view of him. In hindsight his acting skills didn't...

    Review Short Stories

I recently read an anthology of short "space opera" stories called "Beyond the Stars: A Planet too Far" (edited by Ellen Campbell) and enjoyed all the stories thoroughly. My absolute favourite was Hope 91 by Nick Webb which told the story, by way of diary entries, of a boy travelling by...

    Review Kill the Moon (2014)

If the episode had been done in a comedic way I'd happily give it a pass. But the episode was heavily dramatic and emotional with no indication of comedic intention. It was clearly intended as a "serious" episode.

    Review The Classic Who Producers

I suspect that he gets a lot more criticism than he deserves. He was responsible for some good decisions (including my personal favourite Doctor, Peter Davison) and it was largely due to him that the show remained on air as long as it did. There were some bad decisions too (Colin's costume) but...

    Review The "NEW WHO" Showrunners

I'll vote in favour of good showrunner. Not perfect by any means but overall he's done a pretty good job. He's clearly passionate about the show and, while he obviously has some different ideas about where the show should go than I do, he's worked hard to keep the show going. In the end I...

    Review Kill the Moon (2014)

Any kid over the age of 6 that doesn't understand what a ridiculous concept it is for the moon to be an egg that hatches and immediately lays an egg the same size as the one it hatched out of (and doesn't leave any sign of the eggshell) needs to be checked for mental development delay. And my...

Fun Star Trek: The Original Series

I remember watching all the movies over a week a few years ago and seeing him balloon as the series progressed. It wasn't that noticeable watching them a few years apart but one a day, wow ...

    Fun Star Trek: Voyager

This is the episode that makes Spock's Brain from the original series look like it was Emmy material.

    Review The Colin Baker Doctor

I remember watching this one when I hadn't seen much before Tom Baker. My only exposure to Jon Pertwee was through the novelisations. The references to an adventure with the third Doctor and Jo had me all excited and I was disappointed that it turned out to be a non-existent story. Is there any...

    Review Kill the Moon (2014)

Yeah this is a myth. Bumble bees are perfectly aerodynamically capable of flight and science doesn't say otherwise. I enjoyed the story overall but the scientific ignorance about the moon (which would have been considered ignorant a hundred years ago) makes it hard to take.

    Review The Colin Baker Doctor

I loved Colin Baker's performance, erratic as it was. I didn't even mind the hideous costume that much. But the twins make this episode almost unwatchable. Every time they're on screen I just want to punch them. I know the script called for twins and twins are hard to come by in the acting...

    Review The Mccoy Doctor

Awful special effects and a silly story, combined with a pathetic regeneration, but the performances of Kate O'Mara and Sylvester McCoy make it totally worthwhile.

Review The Keys Of Marinus (1964)

A good concept for a story, having the Doctor and companions chasing around different locations after various items. Sort of a Key to Time concept in a single story. Unfortunately it also demonstrated why stories tended to be in a couple of key locations for 4-6 (or more) episodes. The budget...

    Review The TENNANT Doctor

I can't say that I either love or hate it. It was a great idea to explore the lives of those affected by the Doctor and see what happens after he leaves. But it wasn't well executed unfortunately.

    Review Wonder Woman (2017)

It does indeed. Unfortunately so did the trailers for Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad. The only thing to learn from that is "never trust a trailer".
