Review CI5: The New Professionals (1998)

A reboot of the 70's classic that originally starred Gordon Jackson , Martin Shaw and Lewis Collins. This was quite a faithful update, plenty of action ,partly written by Brian Clemens as the original was. Edward Woodward in the role of chief of CI5, previously filled by Jackson. Woodward's Harry Malone character even having Cowley 's photo on his desk.
One season only of 13 episodes.

Nor did many others. It was a Sky production and never made it onto terrestrial tv.

Such a shame. It looks like it was probably quality and certainly looks faithful. Perhaps it was a case of the show's time having passed by, despite this effort to catch lightning in a bottle again.

I saw it and enjoyed it, but I was never able to get into it like I did with the original.

CI5, the British squad formed by George Cowley to combat 'anarchy, acts of terror, crimes against the public', has developed into an international force with operatives hired from around the world by the 1990s. With connections to the FBI, CIA and other law-enforcement agencies, CI5 operates outside borders with a group of specialists under a similar brief.
