More Names Up For McKay’s Cheney Biopic

We already know that “Anchorman” and “The Big Short” director Adam McKay has been working on a Dick Cheney biopic. The film already has Christian Bale locked in to play Cheney and currently undergoing one of his famed body transformations for the part.

What’s not known is who will be co-starring with him, though there’s been rumors of Amy Adams as his wife Lynne Cheney and Steve Carell as Donald Rumsfeld.

Now, That Hashtag Show reports that there are three key roles in the process of being cast with both Edward Norton and James Marsden up for President George W. Bush.

They also say Mackenzie Davis is being sought for Cheney’s daughter Mary, and the trio of Tyler Perry, Cuba Gooding, Jr., or Giancarlo Esposito are all up for former Secretary of State Colin Powell.

Filming aims to begin shortly with a potential awards push late next year.

Sam Rockwell Is President Bush In “Cheney”

Sam Rockwell is reportedly in final negotiations to portray former President George W. Bush opposite Christian Bale as former vice president Dick Cheney in Adam McKay’s biopic about Cheney at Annapurna Pictures.

Bale is portraying Cheney in a story that chronicles his avoiding military service in the Vietnam War, his rise to CEO of the multinational corporation Halliburton and finally becoming what some have called the most powerful U.S. vice president ever to hold office.

Steve Carell has been cast as Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, Amy Adams is playing Cheney’s wife Lynne, and Bill Pullman is playing scion Nelson Rockefeller. The project is aiming to begin filming in September.

McKay, Will Ferrell, Kevin Messick, Brad Pitt and Dede Garner will produce.

Your thoughts on this movie.....

VICE explores how a bureaucratic Washington insider quietly became the most powerful man in the world as Vice-President to George W. Bush, reshaping the country and the globe in ways still felt today.

The first trailer has been released for “Anchorman” and “The Big Short” director Adam McKay’s new film “Vice” which is slated to open at Christmas.

The epic story follows how a bureaucratic Washington insider named Dick Cheney quietly became the most powerful man in the world as Vice-President to George W. Bush, reshaping the country and the globe in ways that we still feel today.
The film stars Christian Bale as Cheney, Sam Rockwell as George W. Bush, Amy Adams as Lynne Cheney, and Steve Carell as Donald Rumsfeld. Bale shaved his head, bleached his eyebrows and put on 40 pounds for the role.

The Christian Bale-led Dick Cheney biopic “Vice” screened for the press on Saturday, one of the last major screenings of the 2019 Oscar candidates, and reaction has so far been excellent – especially for Bale’s performance – with a lot of comparisons to Adam McKay’s previous major awards contender “The Big Short”. Reviews have yet to be published, only reaction pieces so far.

I saw it a couple of days ago. Pretty interesting, and kind of humanizes him while showing that he’s an evil son-of-a-bitch. It was pretty obviously slanted to the left (not that I mind that) and played like a comedy. It didn’t cover his career as a Senator though. Maybe that would have made the movie too long? I don’t know. Some nice light viewing.
