Maybe it was because tv viewing habits were different in the good old days, but as teenager I didn't mind the occasional costume drama, and one of my favorites was Raffles with Anthony Valentine and Christopher Strauli. Excellent series well acted and the usual galaxy of guest stars.
I read somewhere that the original books by E.Hornung was frowned upon as he had a thief as a hero.

This is a tremendous scene that someone has put on youtube, realising we have two wonderful actors as Robert Hardy and Anthony Valentine.
