The War with Grandpa is an upcoming American family-comedy-drama film directed by Tim Hill, based on the novel of same name by Robert Kimmel Smith.

The film stars Robert De Niro, Christopher Walken and Oakes Fegley.

The film is scheduled to be released on February 23, 2018 by The Weinstein Company's Dimension Films.


Plot

Forced to give up his room to his grandfather (De Niro), a scheming boy (Fegley) devises a series of outrageous pranks in an attempt to make him move out.

Production

On June 13, 2016, it was announced that Robert De Niro would play the titular role in the comedy film The War with Grandpa, an adaptation of the novel of same name by Robert Kimmel Smith, adapted by Lisa Addario & Joe Syracuse with a second draft by Tom J. Astle and Matt Ember.

Tim Hill was attached as director, while producers on the film would be Phillip Glasser, Marvin Peart, and Rosa Morris-Peart.

On October 4, 2016, Christopher Walken and Eugene Levy joined the cast of the film.

On October 20, Marisa Tomei was in talks to play De Niro's character's daughter.

It was announced in May 2017 that Fegley would topline the film.

Principal photography on the film began on May 2, 2017 in Atlanta, Georgia, where it shot for six weeks.

Release

The War with Grandpa is scheduled to be released on February 23, 2018 by The Weinstein Company's Dimension Films.

It was initially scheduled to be released on April 21, 2017, which was later pushed back to October 20, 2017 due to principal photography location changes.
