Robot domestic servants. The poor things.

All thanks to 2000AD comic, with Walter the Wobot and the like....

However, my assumption that one day all the domestic work would be done by droids/robots was tempered by the forewarning in 2000AD that these very same robots would rebel and start slaughtering all of their human oppressors!

So, I am quite content to go and make my own beans on toast, if need be, thank you very much.

I never fancied complaining about the carpenter's drill that had just been weedled into my gut! :emoji_confused:

I'm disappointed that we don't have flying cars yet, like on the Jetsons. I wouldn't have to worry about my tires too much - or driving on the ice!

According to Hollywood, they were supposed to turn up any day now....

Way back in 1977....

2017....

We are still waiting.....

Even Speilberg - who seeded our dreams - has lost faith, it seems, pointing out that with all the digital cameras that everybody owns, we should be getting much better evidence now.

Instead.... nothing.

But it's nice to look back at the dream, preserved as it is on film.

And maybe - just maybe - they could still turn up one day.....?

And maybe offer some of us an escape from our own world....

Should we be willing to dump all Earthly responsibility and wish to go?

Just an evolutionary question then....

Why do they have orange faces on your planet? :emoji_neutral_face:

Or is that some strange, dumb offshoot branch of your normally extremely intelligent and logically benign race? :emoji_confused:.
No, you're thinking of a different species of aliens.

They're the ones with orange skin who wear a Tribble on their head.

They're known for mating with Orang-utans and picking fights with everyone they meet.

My people have nothing to do with them.

Never saw it. But it sounds impressive. Why didn't they put it on the market?
I doubt it ever got beyond the prototype stage.

Theory is all very well, but putting something into practise is infinitely more difficult.

And the thought of such a vehicle being available to the general public is truly terrifying if you consider the possible ramifications.

This Robot Butler Follows You Around Your Home

This robot can follow you around and make your life easier. Temi is a mobile personal assistant robot. Temi learns and updates its map as it follows you around and can eventually be ordered to go to specific locations. Temi is 3 feet tall and weighs just 20 pounds. The short phrase "Hey, Temi" summons the robot. It answers questions similar to Alexa and Google Home, makes video calls, and takes photos and videos on command. Temi uses facial and voice recognition to identify you. A three-hour charge gets you eight hours of battery life and it automatically charges itself when power gets low. Temi costs $1,500. Are you ready for your personal robot butler?

I guess there are lots of ideas from sci-fi that I'm disappointed that we don't have yet. As a kid growing up in the 70s/80s, I was very much into studying the space program, and thought for sure, that, by now, we would have at least one lunar colony, as well as a much more elaborate space station (or several). Alas, space travel problems in the 80s and costs put many of these things on back burners, but I feel a little cheated that we haven't progressed all that far in the last few decades. We went from putting satellites in space to the moon in such a short time, and then we seemed to stagnate in our pursuit of space conquer...I mean, exploration.

But hey, Trump plans on creating a space force, so maybe? No, then he'll just want to build a wall in space.

I also thought we would see cybernetic limbs more like what Luke Skywalker had in Empire. Maybe someone was worried that those crazy Telosians would take it too far.

And time travel. Seriously, what is stalling this?

You just know that people are going to tell these things to piss off and stop following when someone has had a bad day? :emoji_head_bandage:
Don't you mean you just know that people are going to tell these things to go off and kill someone when they've had a bad day?

I hear there's one at the rescue home for robot dogs....

Sadly, it's ball-bearing shake and it is has a nervous stutter, owing to a terrible time with it's previous owner...... :emoji_fearful:
