:emoji_relaxed:~ The last movie I've seen at home was Period of Adjustment(1962). The movie is based on one of Tennessee William's play. It was cute, witty romance that centers these two married couple. One recently married and the other married for several years. Both couples are having their difficulties, miscommunication & in-laws interfering.

I really enjoyed this movie a lot and its definitely one of my favorite plays of :emoji_purple_heart:Tennessee Williams. This film had Jane Fonda day viewing earlier work also co-staring Anthony Franciosa, Jim Hutton & Lois Nettleton. The performances were great and plot was excellent and common in any real life situation. So I rate this movie with top 10 stars & two thumbs up.

Over the holidays I've been on a movie streak...

Airplane! - Seen it many times and surely it is the best spoof of all time.

The Magnificent Seven 2016 - Disappointed. It felt like a movie made by committee, like an understated 80's action movie where everyone dressed up like cowboys. And if that makes no sense, you get the problem with the movie. It also suffered a bit from too much villain plot. Bullets only count against bad guys. Shoot a bad guy in the arm and he dies while a good guy can take a dozen wounds and run like maniac. Good guys sprint chaotically back and forth across a battlefield and somehow never shoot each other by mistake. Chris Pratt and Denzel Washington were lackluster. Ethan Hawke was excellent and had potentially the most interesting character but was kept in the background most of the film, a big mistake. Haley Bennett did well but the character was confusing: independent, sloppy sexy, caring one minute, indifferent the next. She came off as token female. Vincent D'Onofrio steals the show by default. His character is generically written but he manages to make him memorable. I'm not sure what went on behind the scenes to make it such a mess but the movie would have benefit from a different leading man. Denzel looks good for his age but he's a good 2o years older than the villain which doesn't work at all with the story. All in all it's not a bad movie. Some people will like it but it's a far cry from Seven Samurai or the John Sturges version.

What We Do in the Shadows (2014) - a mockumentary of vampires living in New Zealand and how they deal with mundane stuff like household chores, nightlife, friendships, and managing familiars. It almost has a Broken Lizard vibe but more subtle and understated. I found it hilarious. You have the master vampire, Peter, in the basement. He's 8,000 years old and doesn't attend house meetings. You also have a Victorian dandy, a Russian vampire, and a middle-ages vampire. Deacon hasn't done dishes in 5 years and the other vampires are embarrassed to have company over. Deacon points out they kill their guests so what does it matter?

The Dukes of Hazzard (2005) - I watched this when it came out and it was amusing but I think it has aged well. The soundtrack is good, the acting is good, the car chases are fantastic, and Daisy Duke is as delicious as ever.

Caddyshack, Still hilarious. Varmint-cong

Gantz: 0 - Animation based on a manga. I'm not really into cartoons but if they have good stories, it's all good, and this one has a good story. About a guy who attempts to stop a mugging and dies for his efforts. he wakes up alive and is forced to fight monsters to earn points for his freedom. It's good, action packed, and jiggly, very jiggly.

X-Men Apocalypse - Good special effects, good casting, big action scenes but in between the action scenes is mostly static. Quicksilver steals the show, big time.

Simple as that!
Nothing's ever simple. Some politician you'll make, mate.
In a theater:
The Last Jedi. I like it. The second act is a mess, and could have 20 minutes cut. Better yet, Johnson should have left a lot of that out and used it for an offshoot film. It dragged the narrative down.
On tv/dvd/etc:
Um, one of the Harry Potter films. There's a marathon going, and I've caught some of them around work and sleep. Last one I actually sat down to watch was A Christmas Story on Christmas Eve. Love that movie.

Some others:

The Ambushers (1967) - Dean Martin as secret agent Matt Helm. Ebert said this movie had no plot and he wasn't kidding. We watched the entire thing with the sound too low to hear and it didn't make any difference. Mostly it's just Dean Martin being cool and chasing tail. What I really enjoyed was the style, the clothing, the cars, the girls, the architecture; all very enjoyable to look at. Near the end things take an unexpected twist and the bad guy pulls out a ray gun. I expected someone to get vaporized but he points it at the bar and makes drinks for everyone and then floats the drinks to them. My kind of bad guy. My kind of ray gun.

Prisoners of the Lost Universe (1983) - Starring Richard Hatch (Battlestar's Apollo) and Kay Lenz, as strangers who accidentally get transported to an alternate dimension along with a mad scientist. Hatch and Lenz assemble a rag tag crew, which oddly includes a caveman, to retrieve the scientist from a local warlord (John Saxon) so they can all get home. Silly and fun 80's sci-fi-action-adventure. Not particularly good but quirky and fun enough to be watchable.

The Last Jedi was pretty good. And whenever I see A Christmas Story on television I usually have a good time watching it, I am not sure why I haven't gone out if my way to watch it recently. (I haven't seen it all the way through in 5 years):emoji_alien:

The wife popped in Mystery, Alaska tonight. It's one of my favorites. When people make lists of great sports movies, I'm always disappointed when this one doesn't get mentioned. If you've never watched it, it's the story of a small town in Alaska where a group of locals play hockey in the "Saturday game". When a former citizen writes an article for Sports Illustrated about the team, he comes back home and brings the New York Rangers to play them. It's a hilarious movie with a lot of heart, and, of course, hockey.

The Disaster Artist (2017)
This movie is awesome. It does take a few artistic liberties that are understandable, but its pretty close to the book. James Franco really nails Tommy Wisseu. But if you havent seen The Room, you might not like this movie.

Bright (Netflix) - A fun buddy cop action movie starring Will Smith and Joel Edgerton. Well constructed and perfectly paced.

I have watched The Room once, which was more than enough. Strangely, I'm actually pretty excited to see this film. As a reviewer said, it's in that same vein of Ed Wood, that a really great movie was made about the making of terrible movies (and I'm an Ed Wood fan, so there's that).

Ghostbusters (2016)

For all of the negative reviews I have read and watched for this movie, I think they are off the mark. I am a huge fan of the first Ghostbusters (the sequel is okay, but nowhere near as good as the first), and I really went into this one trying not to compare them too much. Honestly, I found the movie pretty funny. It's not the original, and it isn't trying to be. It succeeds in what it is attempting, which is an homage to the original but telling its own story. The four leads are great, the story is entertaining, the effects are good, and I laughed. If I have any complaints, it is that the first movie blended humor and horror pretty well (maybe not all out horror, but there are some dark moments). This one plays it as a straight comedy all the way through, which I still liked, but some more of those dark moments would have made for a more balanced movie. I'd rate it a 3 1/2 out of 5 chainsaws.
