Which was he more of?

Hero?

Or villain?

And would you trust him to watch your back?

I just think he did cold equations in his head and chose the most practical outcome.

Not sure that pegs him as a psychopath.

That said, as the series went on, he became quietly more and more desperate, though he would never admit that of course. Would never reach out to another human being. He had just been so hurt by Anna Grant that he was afraid to reach out anymore.

And eventually those cold equations in his head started working against him as the decisions he made became more and more brutal to the point where he would discard the assets in his life, trading them for short term survival.

But inside that all I think there was just just a desperate and wounded man.

Just such a shame he cut himself off from the rest of humanity, that I think that he really yearned to join.

You don't yearn to join humanity if you are a psychopath.

He always kept his word too.

I don't think many psychopaths would do that.

I rest my (flimsy) case!

I've heard of THE WIRE, but that's all.

Is there someone in it called Avon?
Avon Barksdale is a drug dealer, the main antagonist of season 1, and a recurring character in following seasons. The Wire is a police/crime drama set in West Baltimore, Maryland. The police investigate Barksdale and his criminal organization, eventually placing listening devices (slang: a "wire") in his building to gain evidence for his eventual trail.

"All the pieces matter," is a phrase from S1 meaning that all the evidence the police collect is important to building a trial case but it also describes the show in that every character, every thing, is important to the story. If a cop pins a piece of paper to a bulletin board, that piece of paper has a story behind it and it means something. Even minor characters tend to have some story or dimension to their character and someone who is barely in one season may be significant in the next. Little kids grow up and become big kids. Small time dealers become big time dealers. The show rewards people who pay attention and notice the details.

Sounds interesting.

I enjoy a good police procedural.

I believe THE WIRE has been broadcast in Australia a few years back, but I was busy at that point in time.
