National Television Awards aired last night.

Jodie lost to Richard Madden in THE BODYGUARD and Doctor Who Series 11 lost to PEAKY BLINDERS.

Bradley Walsh took home an award for his game show THE CHASE, though.

None of the Doctor Who cast were in attendance this year – they were off in South Africa busy filming episodes for the next series. But Bradley Walsh wasn’t going to miss out on The Chase’s win for Best Quiz Show. After the Chasers had made their way up on stage, there appeared a miniature Bradders – FaceTiming on an iPhone! None of us had a clue what he was trying to say but he looked chuffed to bits.

They were busy filming the next series? So it's still going ahead then? Plus if they're filming right now, then why will it take another year to screen it? Not that I'm bothered as I won't be one of the viewers! :emoji_relaxed:

Doctor Who star really isn’t a fan of Jodie Whittaker’s storylines:

‘I don’t want to know about Rosa Parks’

Doctor Who star Frazer Hines has slammed the show’s storylines for Jodie Whittaker’s debut performance last year.

The 74-year-old actor, who played Time Lord Patrick Troughton’s second companion Jamie McCrimmon for three years from 1966,doesn’t seem to be impressed by the politically charged episodes such as the Rosa Parks special written by Malorie Blackman for Black History Month.

‘I’m old fashioned, I don’t want to know about Rosa Parks,’ Frazer said. ‘I don’t want to know about whether we’d done this we could have changed history and Kennedy might not have been shot. I like bug-eyed monsters. Monster of the week, I want.’

He continued to The Sun: ‘I loved it when it was episodic. Now it’s all in one, beginning, middle and an end. ‘I liked it when it ended on a Saturday night and then Sunday in the park or on Monday in the school playground you’d be like, “What is going to happen? Doctor Who was caught there. Is the monster going to get him?”

Jodie Whittaker is the first female Doctor Who Time Lord (Picture: BBC) Fraser appeared on Doctor Who in the 60s (Picture: BBC Archives)

‘Now it’s all wrapped up too quick. Just call me old- fashioned.’

This isn’t the first time former Doctor Who cast members have hit out at the BBC series, with Alex Kingston revealing in February that she was conflicted over news Jodie would be playing the first female Time Lord.

Good old Frazer! You've got to speak up for what you believe in and not go with the flow as we're told! did I hear something about the next series has been cancelled for good or was it a complaint or I don't know what it was but I was excited about it!

The old Doctor Who had historicals. I had some issues with Rosa - mainly the implausibility of the villain - but it was an informative episode. A little anti-intellectual on Hines’ part.

Robert James McCrimmon joined in THE HIGHLANDERS, a pure historical. The last one until BLACK ORCHID. ROSA is not a pure historical. It's a pseudo-historical, like THE ABOMINABLE SNOWMEN. It contains science fiction elements besides those at the very core of the TV series.

And since DOCTOR WHO stopped making pure historicals on a regular basis, BEMs have become a regular staple of the TV series, so what is wrong with preferring them? Besides, purely science fiction serials can do just as much for the intellect as a pseudo-historical, or pure historical can...

It just comes down to the talent of the writer or the "showrunner"...

“Pseudo-historical” has the word “historical” in it. Thus it is a historical. :emoji_wink:

He was saying he preferred bug-eyed monsters. That’s what I meant by anti-intellectual. I don’t mind learning about Rosa Parks. I didn’t know the bus driver was infamous and that she had encountered him before, which I think is very interesting. In fact after looking him up on Google, I saw that he was never apologetic for what he did, AND she went to his funeral and gave his family her condolences! Classy woman.

But I wish it had been a pure historical, because the villain was stupid. They could have found a better way to do the episode.

So does the term "pure historical", but they're different.

And BEMs are mostly just alien species. I must admit DOCTOR WHO's approach to alien species has always been inferior to STAR TREK's, but I'm not sure it's anti-intellectual.

Fraser and Anneke have since clarified their position........

Brilliant. Two actors who haven't actually been in the show for fifty years who aren't totally enamored with the 13th Doctor. Guess we can take it the shows doomed then.

ANNEKE: That is *NOT* what I said please don't quote me as saying that. I love Jodie as the Thirteenth Doctor! I suggest you delete that tweet. She's The Doctor as much as any other.

FRASER: And I didn’t say that either !!Read what we both said !! I too said that that I loved Jodie

But, with respect, neither of you were going to say you hated her!
Because they don't hate her perhaps?

My point was, even if they did, they wouldn't say they did. Its not the done thing if actors want to stay employed. You can hate, or dislike the character, but never the actor.

Actors are too scared to say anything against these cretins and their agenda because it might or will cost them further employment in their old age!

I've seen this sort of thing happening in more than just DOCTOR WHO and by more than just actors.

GHOSTBUSTERS, the MCU, STAR TREK, STAR WARS and so forth... And I've seen fans, journalists and even entire websites being brought to heel if they aren't quick enough to tow the line.

I have to admit I was rather oblivious to all of this, up until GHOSTBUSTERS (2016). Since then, the speed and intensity of this "New World Order" in the entertainment industry has just been building and building.

And it seems that if you're not an immediate and unquestioning acolyte, then you're obviously a misogynist or a troll, or both... Or something worse.

I remember Katy Manning voicing similar - almost nervous - backpedalling reminiscent of Hines and Wills recent skittishness - when she said something like "Don't include me in your viewpoint! I love Jodie!!" on twitter one time when a fan dared to voice doubts after Katy slammed the Radio Times for saying Capaldi had been "less than successful".

Yes, I agree. There has been an unspoken pressure coming to bear on Classic Who people who want to stay employed.

I would just love ONE of the Classic stars to make an unequivocal stand of honesty.

But I don't think it will ever happen. :emoji_disappointed:

Michael Jayston said a few words about how he wasn't keen on the last ten years of Doctor Who on Saturday at the Bedford Charity Con! He slammed Moffat, Eccleston and Mrs.Who! Moffat for his weird writing and the other two for using their native accents in the role! Whitaker's Yorkshire tongue, even though Jayston said that he is a Yorkshireman himself and Eccles for his Mancunian dialect in a role that should be without any accent as the Doctor is from outer space rather than areas of England! The fans in attendance were for the most part pro Mrs.Who because Carole Ann Ford said it was a great thing while Michael came back with if it's SO great then why is it not coming back until 2020? This guy knows the score! I didn't clap for any pro Whitaker stuff by the way! :emoji_angry:
