I suspect that the idea is to keep the story tight and focused for this joint series. And the smaller number of episodes, I assume, leaves more time for filming the ongoing individual series.

I imagine that now it's been picked up by CW the idea crossing over with the other DC shows is back on the table. Even if they decide to keep it in its own separate universe, the multiverse concept ensures that the possibility of at least occasional visits remains.

The one that I've never been able to see is from Doctor Who - Pyramids of Mars. The supremely powerful alien being / Egyptian god Sutekh is finally free from his prison, rises from his chair, and a stage hand reaches up and grabs the cushion that's stuck to his bottom.

I don't think that's necessarily the case. The main problem is that the network knows Star Trek is popular enough to warrant movies and tv shows but they don't have enough faith in the concept to leave it alone and seem to think that they need to keep tweaking it to appeal to a greater fan base...

It's "maybe one" until they see how well this one does. If it does well watch that number creep back up. Given Fincher seems to have disavowed his involvement with the Alien franchise you might be safe on this one.

I'm assuming that it's hard to fuck up as badly as it appears they have without putting in a lot of effort towards that goal. Even cutting up old scripts from the various series and taping them back together in random order would probably be better received than this.

One of the key rules of making a movie - if you're gonna kill off the main character (even only temporarily) wait until the audience has connected with the character so there's some emotional impact. If no one cares about the character while he's alive then they're certainly not going to care...

I wonder what the production brief was. "Let's see how badly we can fuck up a beloved franchise" ??

As more and more information has come out about this show, I've gone from anticipation to concern to "why bother, it'll probably be cancelled quickly anyway"

We only need one definitive version of each. But we have yet to get that. The new Spiderman one might just be the winner (certainly his appearance in Civil War was great). We might be waiting a while for a good standalone Hulk movie but the current version is doing great in other movies...

As a long time comic book fan I dispute the possibility of too many comic based movies. As long as the majority are of the quality we're currently being presented with, I'll happily keep going to see them.

I suspect people will be wary to start with given the responses to Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad. It will really come down to word of mouth how successful this is overall. I know I'll be waiting to see people's responses before I commit to seeing it in theatres. As opposed to Marvel movies...
