“Bumblebee” Film To Be Set In 1980s
While this month’s “Transformers: The Last Knight” will spend its time jumping around various time periods with the majority of action set in contemporary times, it has been revealed the upcoming “Bumblebee” spin-off film will take place firmly at one point in the past – the 1980s.
Empire Magazine recently released an in-depth article on the budding Transformers cinematic universe and how the writer’s room mapped out the future of the franchise.
Transformers World 2005 scored a copy and confirm that the “Bumblebee” movie is going to be a 1980s period piece. Doing so immediately separates this from the other “Transformers” movies both in look and tone:
“A Bumblebee spin-off, conceived and written by Christina Hodson, is being directed by Kubo And The Two Strings’ Travis Knight for a 2018 release. Set in the 1980s, it will feature considerably fewer Transformers, concentrating on the big, yellow star (who in the movies so far can only talk via snippets of radio broadcasts) and likely pitching a little younger, tonally.”
“Edge of Seventeen” star Hailee Steinfeld has been tapped to play the lead in the project which is scheduled to hit theaters on June 8th 2018.
Back to “Transformers: The Last Knight” and Anthony Hopkins has revealed that he can’t explain much of anything going on in the film – even though he stars in it:
“You’re not going to ask me to explain the plot are you? Because it’s so very complicated and there’s the whole mythology of four previous films that come into play. I have to admit, I don’t quite get all of it.
All I know is I play a highly educated, eccentric English lord. I had a terrific time making it. Mark Wahlberg was wonderful to work with, the locations were excellent (Northumberland, Norway, Arizona, the Isle of Skye and Stonehenge) and I showed up, put my costume on, said my lines and stayed out of trouble. That’s all I ever do. It beats working for a living.”
“Transformers: The Last Knight” opens in cinemas on June 21st.
