I must admit, I missed this all important first story on transmission, so I only got to know it through some audio recordings that a friend gave to me, the novelisation and these viewmaster slides....

Tragic really, having to do mental recons of a story that wasn't even lost.

It wasn't until the VHS release that I finally got to see it.

As for the story itself.... I really like it. And I like the fact that the Tardis itself is in danger with the Event One plan of the Master's.

The Castrovalvan civilisation is nicely realised.

As a first story, I am not sure if it was the wisest choice or not. But viewing figures were healthy and this new era seemed like a breath of fresh air at the time.

I really like the first two episodes for having a seperate drama in a doomed Tardis.

And I really like the last two episodes for being so imaginative and clever, with a great role for Ainley.

A good start, overall for this new Doctor.
