“Riverdale” showrunner Roberto Aguirre Sacasa has released the first photo of the title character’s pet cat Salem in the upcoming “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” series reboot at Netflix.

Based on the Archie Comics graphic novel “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina,” the Netflix series hails from Aguirre-Sacasa, Lee Toland Krieger, Jon Goldwater, Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter.

Kiernan Shipka stars as Sabrina opposite Jaz Sinclair as her best friend. In the comics, Salem was a witch sentenced to spend a century as a cat with no magical powers. Last year the series scored a twenty-episode, two-season, straight-to-series order at Netflix.

Upcoming series “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” based on the Archie Comics title. The series reimagines the origin and adventures of Sabrina the Teenage Witch as a dark coming-of-age story that traffics in horror, the occult and, of course, witchcraft. It’s slated to premiere October 26th.

Sabrina the Teenage Witch debuted in Archie's Madhouse (the logo sometimes given as Archie's Mad House) #22 (Oct. 1962). Created by writer George Gladir and designed by artist Dan DeCarlo, she first appeared in that humor anthology's lead story (the logo then spelled "Teen-Age"),[3] and eventually became one of Archie Comics' major characters, appearing in an animated series and a television sitcom.
That issue is now worth $3750 in mint condition.

I'm actually looking forward to this. I had to eat crow when I bashed Riverdale before seeing it, and then ending up enjoying the first season. This really looks pretty good, and it has some pretty good actors coming on board.

Netflix’s “Sabrina” S2 Already Filming

Actress Kiernan Shipka has confirmed the upcoming “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” series is already set to return.

Speaking with Bloody Disgusting, she revealed that cast and crew are already filming the show’s second season and they essentially went straight into filming the second after wrapping the first:

“We went straight into the second season from the first and it’s been really so exceptionally fun to film, especially given the fact that I feel like we’re already in such a rhythm from coming out of the first season that to jump right into the second one was really, really fun and just a great opportunity to keep the momentum going.”

Despite the continuity of filming, creatively the show will take a different approach to its second round of episodes:

“Sabrina definitely changes and shifts a lot. Her growth is very evident and the second season definitely has a different spin on it than the first season. They’re very different from each other.”

Satanic Temple May Sue Netflix’s “Sabrina”

Netflix’s just launched “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” is facing a demon far worse than anything conjured up in the show – lawyers.

The Satanic Temple organisation has reportedly begun legal action against Netflix alleging copyright infringement, and they apparently have a real case.

In the series, Sabrina Spellman (Kiernan Shipka) attends The Academy of the Unseen Arts, a school for witches and warlocks. Sitting in the main hall of the school is a statue dedicated to the Dark Lord.

Satanic Temple co-founder Lucien Greaves says it is an exact copy of their Baphomet deity statue, a work of art that is copyrighted and they reportedly didn’t give permission to the production to use it. He tweeted:

“Yes, we are taking legal action regarding #TheChillingAdventuresofSabrina appropriating our copyrighted monument design to promote their asinine Satanic Panic fiction. I’m amazed that anybody is confused as to why we would seek legal remedy over Sabrina using our monument. Would they be as understanding of a fictional show that used a real mosque as the HQ of a terrorist cell? A fictional Blood Libel tale implicating real world Jews?.”

While the well-known Baphomet design hails from Eliphas Levi’s mid-19th century illustration, the version in both the Satanic Temple and in the show have some striking similarities. Greaves says they aren’t seeking money, rather they want the statue digitally altered telling SF Gate:

“I want them to take it out. It looks like it’s a CGI facsimile to begin with. I don’t know how much work that takes, but I simply refuse to have our monument used in this way in perpetuity. I don’t want our monument to be associated with this.”

The story comes as also today a real preservation group called The Dinosaur Project is suing the makers of “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” for improper use of their trademarked slogan ‘Save the Dinos’ on tie-in merchandise, specifically on clothing, when he expressly stated they weren’t to be used. More details on that are up at THR.

“The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” is now available worldwide on Netflix.

“Sabrina” Settles Lawsuit & Bastes Turkey

Following a filing a $50 million copyright lawsuit, The Satanic Temple has settled with Netflix in regards to its claims the streaming giant used the temple’s copyrighted statue of Baphomet in its new series “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.”

In a statement released Wednesday, the religious organization announced that both parties had reached an amicable settlement requiring Netflix to acknowledge copied elements of the Baphomet statue in the credits of episodes that have already filmed.

Other terms of the settlement are unknown due to a confidentiality agreement. In the statement, the temple also discussed the large amount of hate directed at the organization in recent weeks.

In other news regarding the series, Netflix has dropped a decidedly lewd Thanksgiving-themed featurette starring Nick Scratch (Gavin Leatherwood) who shows you how to prepare and bake a Thanksgiving turkey – and does so in an incredibly suggestive way.

“Sabrina” Renewed For Two More Seasons

Netflix has ordered sixteen more episodes of “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” which will air in two separate parts of eight episodes each.

Netflix originally ordered two seasons of ten episodes each, shot essentially back-to-back, while a holiday special was added on later. The first season aired in October with the second coming in April next year.

The same thing is happening again here be it a slightly lower episode count – the series set to film the third and fourth season together in 2019 and will likely air in a similar pattern to the first (S3 Oct 2019, S4 in Apr 2020).

The second season of “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina,” which sees Jedidiah Goodacre and Alexis Denisof joining the cast, premieres April 5th on the service.
