Gemma Chan Joins “Mary Queen of Scots” Gemma Chan (“Humans,” “Crazy Rich Asians”) has joined the cast of Josie Rourke’s “Mary Queen Of Scots” for Working Title and Focus Features. Chan will play Bess of Hardwick, the friend and confidante of Elizabeth I (Margot Robbie). Bess, along with her husband the Earl of Shrewsbury, eventually became keeper of the captive Mary Queen of Scots (Saoirse Ronan) for fifteen years. Martin Compston and Jack Lowden co-star in the film which boasts a script by Beau Willimon and is based on the 2004 biography by John Guy. Filming is now underway.
