NBC Develops A “Nancy Drew” Reboot

NBC has begun development of a TV series reboot of the “Nancy Drew” franchise which Dan Jinks and CBS TV Studios will produce.

“Doubt” creators Tony Phelan and Joan Rater are also behind the project, the pair developing a previous version of the reboot at CBS in 2016. The new take is said to be very different to last year’s attempt, sharing little beyond the title and source material.

In the series, the author of the most famous female teen detective book series is thrust into a real-life murder mystery and turns to her two best friends from her childhood for help.

The pair though, who served as the inspiration for those books, have a real ax to grind with their supposed best friend about the way she chose to portray them (as sidekicks to her heroine) all those years ago.

The women, all in their 40s and 50s now, overcome the inevitable bad blood and pull together to solve mysteries.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A bit of an outsider struggling to fit into her new surroundings, Nancy and her pals set out to solve the mystery, make new friends, and establish their place in the community.

I'm getting a little tired of hearing all of these shows labeled as "reboots". When you read the description of many (including this one) they've got nothing to do with the original show they're supposedly rebooting. A more accurate description would be "title reuse for brand new, unrelated show".

“IT” Actress Is The New “Nancy Drew”

“IT” actress Sophia Lillis has been cast in the title role in the film “Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase,” a film adaptation of the popular Nancy Drew novels.

Released in 1930, the book is the second volume in the series about the young female sleuth. In that tale she agrees to help a friend who has been hearing strange noises and seeing shadows in their old family mansion.

At the same time, a strange man visits Nancy to warn her she’s in danger because of a case he is working on buying property for a railroad company.

Lillis played the young Beverly Marsh, the sole female member of the Losers Club, in last year’s box-office sensation “IT”. She will also soon be seen in HBO’s Amy Adams-led “Sharp Objects” series.

Ellen DeGeneres, Jeff Kleeman, and Chip Diggins are on board to produce the new “Nancy Drew” which aims to begin filming soon.
