ABC Orders “NYPD Blue” Sequel Series Pilot

ABC has handed out a pilot production commitment for a sequel series to its iconic 1990s cop drama classic “NYPD Blue” which 20th Century Fox Television will produce.

The new series follows Theo, the son of Andy Sipowicz (Dennis Franz), as he tries to earn his detective shield and work in the 15th squad while investigating his father’s murder.

Matt Olmstead and Nick Wootton, who worked on the twelve season original series run, will write and executive produce the new show with Jesse Bochco, son of original series co-creator Steven Bocho. Dayna Bochco will produce.

Alona Tal (“SEAL Team”) is the first regular cast member to join ABC’s pilot for an “NYPD Blue” reboot. Tal will play one of the four main roles and the female lead in the sequel. The story revolves around Theo Sipowicz, son of Andy, who tries to earn his detective shield and work in the 15th squad while investigating his father’s murder. Tal will play Detective Nicole Lazarus, a detective in the midst of a divorce and playing around.
