As a kid I saw Nova pull an arm out of his pocket that had turned into a slime covered limb, totally convincing and totally horrifying.

As an adult I watched it on vhs and saw a very good actor pull an arm out of his pocket covered in green painted bubblewrap.

Like much of Classic Who, one has to watch it through a certain mental filter to reap the benefits.
