Review The Exorcist (2016)

Wow. Just caught the last two episodes of the season. There had been rumors that the series was to be cancelled, so they gave it enough closure that it could end or continue. And apparently, there will be a second season, so I can't wait to see what they do with the set-up they gave us.

If you haven't seen the show, it is a sequel to the original 1974 horror movie classic (it ignores the events of The Heretic, thank the maker),
and it follows a parish priest and an exorcist as they fight Pazuzu, who now has his sights set on the daughter of Regan, who is now going by the name Angela, and is raising a family with multiple issues.
If you love the first movie, give the show a try. Season one is available to stream on Hulu.

The first season was excellent in some ways and a let down in others but S2 feels ... neutered. The first season helped push some boundaries and buttons by tormenting a pretty girl (it's never done) with suggestions of inappropriate relationships but S2 so far is mostly talking and is lacking a cohesive narrative.

FOX has cancelled two supernatural series, the dark remake of “The Exorcist” and the lighter DC Comics adaptation “Lucifer,” after two and three seasons respectively.

“The Exorcist” was FOX’s lowest-rated program this year, averaging 1.32 million total viewers and a 0.41 rating. “Lucifer” was averaging only 4.1 million viewers and a 1.1 rating, including DVR playback.
