In what’s said to be the biggest TV package sale of the year, Netflix has won a week-long streaming bidding war to acquire “Glee” and “American Horror Story” creator Ryan Murphy’s new hourlong comedy series “The Politician”,

Tony Award winner Ben Platt (“Dear Evan Hanson”) will lead the cast, but it’s his co-stars that are taking the attention – none other than Barbra Streisand and Gwyneth Paltrow. All three will produce.

Said to be a comedy that features social commentary, further story specifics are unknown beyond Platt’s character being a ‘wealthy Santa Barbarian’ with dreams of reaching political office and each season will focus on different political races that he is involved in. There will also be musical numbers.

The project has already been given a “two-season straight-to-series order”. Murphy is set to direct the pilot episode and Streisand could direct some of the episodes as well. Murphy, Brad Falchuck and Ian Brennan will executive produce.

TV producer Ryan Murphy is casting a couple of great ladies.

First up he’s set both Bette Midler and Judith Light to guest star in his new Netflix series “The Politician”. Midler and Light will both appear in Seasons 1 and 2 of the upcoming political comedy.

Also he has cast Broadway legend and “Penny Dreadful” scene-stealer Patti LuPone to guest star on the upcoming second season of the FX drama “Pose”.

That series will jump ahead two years to 1990, specifically the day Madonna’s “Vogue” was released, and actress MJ Rodriguez will reportedly share many scenes with the double Grammy and double Tony winner.

Murphy made the announcements during Saturday’s PaleyFest panel. “The Politician” airs on Netflix from September 27th. FX has yet to set a premiere date for the second season of “Pose”.
