The first tv story that I ever remember seeing - and it was of the iconic moment when the Sea Devils emerge from the sea.

Pertwee was my Doctor - at least for a while - and I remember having no idea what had just occurred when he eventually regenerated and that strange man with dark curly hair suddenly replaced him on that laboratory floor.

But that was a good few stories away and the Doctor was this wise, authoritarian and intelligent role model; full of the knowledge of the universe, who seemed to be frightened of nothing.
