They seemed to hit it off on the show alright but is that because Tom was such a good actor? I've heard that story years ago and could imagine Tom in his drunken stupor having this irritating boy following him around and getting tired of it! It wasn't nice of him to do that to Waterhouse I agree but we've all been in that place at one time or another...

I think, at the end of the day, reading his book and seeing him in interviews, while he was devastated at the time, Matthew now actually has more respect for Tom than for any of his Davison era co-stars. "Tom is not a fake!" he says. For at least he knew where he stood with Tom, who told him to piss off in a bad moment, whereas his later co-workers clearly wanted to tell him to piss off all the time, but were nice to his face (and during the commentaries). but continue to sneer at him in interviews about his perceived shortcomings to this day.

Matthew's autobiography is a very interesting read.Lalla Ward comes off as pretty snobby and dreadful to be around at times. Some poor photographer was trying to take pictures on the set for a FULL CIRCLE viewmaster slideshow and she complained loudly in front of him and the whole cast and crew about "this awful little man" following her. She has nothing nice to say about Matthew either to this day.

Intriguingly, Matthew has written it in the third person, his logic being that he was so young that it was literally a different person then, so has enough distance to talk about "Matthew did this or that", rather than I. This baffled some reviewers, but I can see his logic.

While I can see this about her, he also came on the show after her and Tom's divorce, and the set was quite tense, as I understand it (if this isn't correct, let me know, I'm going from something I read online, so this may not be entirely accurate). Neither she nor Tom wanted to work with each other, but were forced to, so I'm sure he didn't get the best of either of them.
Again, may be just because of the circumstances. I've never read anything else about her as far as this attitude goes, but she seemed like she could be a bit horrid at times.
Um, did you see any episodes with Adric? I have nothing nice to say about him either. :emoji_alien:

To be fair, I don't believe I've ever seen Waterhouse in anything else, and he may be a very lovely fellow. But...yeah. Adric. I'd have traveled in the TARDIS with Mel before him.

I thought Tom and Lalla got married after she left the show and divorced before 1983?

Yes, that's in fact correct. They got married in Dec 1980, after Lalla had left the the show and Tom was still finishing up. Up until then they had a stormy on/off relationship in and out of the studio! :emoji_alien:

While looking for a clip of their wedding I found this, which I did not know about....

Ah. Thanks to both of you, because I had gotten bad information about the timeline. Interesting video, however, I could have done without the religious propaganda throughout it.

Apparently Tom popped out to the shops one day, about 18 months into their marriage - and simply never came back. :emoji_confused:

Lalla never seemed to turn down the opportunity for a sideswipe at Tom on the audio-commentaries.

I suspect also that their Big Finish team ups are recorded separately.

That, unfortunately, paints Tom in a way that mars how I can ever see him again. He'll always be my favorite Doctor, but as a person, he's a bastard.

I think he sat on the couch and told her that from his point of view this relationship wasn't working and then he popped out to get some milk! Or something like that...

Susan Jameson reads a brand new original story featuring the Fourth Doctor and his companion Mrs Wibbsey. In 18th Century coastal Italy, the local fishermen haul in an extraordinary catch: a gigantic serpent. The Doctor identifies it as an alien, but to the ailing locals this fabled sea creature has the capacity to heal them - if only Count Otto will share it with them. When Mrs Wibbsey comes under the influence of the Count, the Doctor finds himself snared by the wicked power of a seemingly immortal magician, the infamous Cagliostro! Set after the events of the Nest Cottage Chronicles, the story is read by Mrs Wibbsey herself, as played by Susan Jameson. Duration: 1 hour 10 mins approx.

I thought that this was a PLANET OF THE APES crossover for a moment, looking at the cover.... :emoji_confused:

I had zero interest in that HORNET'S NEST rubbish(?) a few years back, as I felt that the makers were bending over backwards to accommodate whatever eccentric nonsensical indulgence that Tom demanded in order to get him to work with them. So Mrs Wibbsey is one strike against this already, for me.

I had to stop buying audios as they just kept on coming one after another with no end in sight but my wallet was emptying quicker than I could build it up! Plus the BBC Hornets Nest didn't look that exciting to me even if Richard Franklin and Tom Baker together did seem whacky enough!

    I found that strangely enjoyable...

And closer to the spirit of DOCTOR WHO than anything I've seen from New Who.

Looks good! Better than anything the BBC have done or will do with the franchise for the last five years!
Funny I was only thinking about a Doctor Who Continues fan thing like Vic Mignona's Trek recently! And then I find out someone has already started on one!

They definitely need to change that logo for the fans who won't accept the new series and Doctor! (Not that I'm going to, as I'm very happy with my DVD collection of Doctor Who at home!) As my wife keeps telling me every other day!:emoji_relaxed:
