It’s official. “Man of Steel” and “Mission: Impossible – Fallout” actor Henry Cavill has been cast as Geralt of Rivia in Netflix’s upcoming TV series adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski’s best-selling fantasy novel series “The Witcher”.

Geralt is a solitary monster hunter, struggling to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. When destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.

The property has been previously adapted into the highly popular and critically acclaimed video game franchise. Production on this TV series adaptation is gearing up for a Fall start in Eastern Europe with an eight-episode first season aiming to arrive on the streaming service hopefully sometime in 2020.

Lauren Schmidt Hissrich serves as executive producer and showrunner on the series while Sean Daniel, Jason Brown, Tomek Baginski and Jarek Sawko will also executive produce. The project marks a return to television for Cavill who first broke through with a major regular series role on Showtime’s “The Tudors”.

The Witcher

Netflix’s “The Witcher” was the first major UK based production to completely shut down filming due to coronavirus concerns, and did so with over four months of filming remaining on the adult fantasy series.

Now comes word that production is targeting a first week of August start of the resumption of filming and will likely push the second season launch back from early 2021 to sometime next Summer. [Source: The International Business Times]
