First Clip: The Robins Meet In DC’s “Titans”

To celebrate both Batman Day and the launch of the DC Universe streaming service, the first clip from the upcoming series “Titans” has been released and shows off the two Robins – Brenton Thwaites’ Dick Grayson and Curran Walters’ Jason Todd – in action.

The clip can be seen at the 2:18 mark in the first episode of “DC Daily,” a talk show/update series that will be a part of the network.

“Titans” follows a group of young heroes from across the DC Universe as they come of age and find belonging in a gritty take on the classic “Teen Titans” franchise. Dick Grayson and Rachel Roth, a special young girl possessed by a strange darkness, get embroiled in a conspiracy that could bring Hell on Earth.

Joining them along the way are the hot-headed Starfire and loveable Beast Boy. Together they become a surrogate family and team of heroes. The series launches October 12th.

Thwaites Talks That ‘F— Batman’ “Titans” Line

The first trailer for DC Universe’s “Titans” series at Comic Con didn’t fare well with critics or fans, and no single moment of it stood out more than Brenton Thwaites’ Robin saying the now immortal line: “F–k Batman.”

The point was made with that line – despite the young cast this is very much an adult show that will get away with darker themes and swearing, even if it’s somewhat forced. It was an odd moment as, aside from this line, Thwaites’ casting and costuming as Dick Grayson/Robin has been the most well-received element of the series so far.

Speaking with EW several weeks out from the series launch, Thwaits tells the mag that the line was actually improvised:

“We’d already shot that alley fight scene before, and there was no punch to it. There was no real exclamation mark. I think the producers wanted something that would kind of set the tone for the whole show. It’s a show that isn’t about Batman, and I think it’s important for people to know that and maybe not be disappointed that they’re not going to see Batman jumping from the ceiling and beating up a hundred guys, because it’s not Batman, it’s a story about the Titans, essentially. I feel like ‘F— Batman’ says that in two words.”

“Titans” Already Renewed For Season 2

Ahead of its debut, DC Universe has handed out an early second season renewal to its live-action drama series “Titans” from producers Akiva Goldsman, Geoff Johns, and Greg Berlanti.

News of the renewal was announced at New York Comic Con following the show’s world premiere at the event and the news earlier this week which sees the series to be released via Netflix outside the United States. The episode count as not revealed but will likely match the eleven episodes produced for the show’s first season.

Brenton Thwaites, Anna Diop, Teagan Croft, Ryan Potter, Minka Kelly and Alan Ritchson star in the series about a group of young heroes as they come of age and find belonging in a gritty take on the classic Teen Titans franchise. The cast turned up at the screening and addressed the backlash that arose following the first trailer’s release at Comic Con back in July.

Thwaites says: “I understand that fans can react to certain things that they feel are strange. As an artist…it is part of your heart that goes in to making these shows – you want to show the guys and the girls something they have not seen before. I feel we really should stay true to our own vibe and our own style. I take [the criticism] with a grain of salt, but I do take it.”

“Titans” will premiere on DC Universe on Friday October 12th. Netflix hasn’t yet set a date for a launch of the show, the deal likely to be a weekly broadcast on October 13th, if not then a full season release sometime early 2019.

Titans

Stuntmen Alain Moussi and Maxim Savaria have been revealed as the guys who donned Batman’s cape and cowl in the upcoming season finale of “Titans” on DC Universe – suggesting the Caped Crusader will be involved in some very action-heavy scenes but will have only little dialogue. The season finale episode airs tomorrow in the United States. The full season will be available on Netflix worldwide on January 11th.

Joseph Wilson (aka Jericho) and Rose Wilson (aka Ravager) are set to join their father Slade Wilson (aka Deathstroke) when the DC Universe series “Titans” returns for a second season.

Producer Geoff Johns has teased a different take on the Deathstroke character for the series late last year, this one a military man with a family but whose demanding nature tore that family apart.

Joshua Orpin Is Superboy In “Titans”

DC Entertainment has announced that Australian actor Joshua Orpin (“The Neon Spectrum”) has been cast as Superboy in the upcoming second season of DC Universe’s “Titans” series.

In the series, this Superboy is described as an angsty ‘Teenager of Steel’ searching for purpose and the truth about his past.

While looking for answers, he crashes into their world and finds an unlikely home and surrogate family as well as revelations that carry more complications than he ever bargained for.

This version is being called Conner Kent, the name given to the second version of Superboy in the comics who was a clone created in the wake of Superman’s death.

That would fit in with the first look at the character, along with Krypto the Superdog, which took place in a post-credits scene within CADMUS laboratories in the first season finale. A stand-in was used for the character in those scenes.

Orpin marks the third Australian actor in the main cast, joining Brenton Thwaites as Dick Grayson and Teagan Croft as Rachel Roth.

“Titans” is expected to return to screens either late 2019 or early 2020 on either DC Universe or the new WarnerMedia streaming service in the U.S., and on Netflix everywhere else.

Chelsea T. Zhang Is Ravager In “Titans”

Chelsea T. Zhang (“Andi Mack”) has joined the second season of DC Universe series “Titans”.

Zhang has been cast in the series regular role of Rose Wilson, aka Ravager. In the comics, the daughter of Deathstroke has been depicted as both an enemy to and member of the Titans.

In the new season, she seeks out the Titans not only for their protection but to get back at her father. This will mark the live-action debut for Slade Wilson’s biological daughter even as Ravager has appeared on screen several times before – most notably in the second season of “Arrow” played by Summer Glau.

She joins fellow new cast members Esai Morales as Rose’s father Slade Wilson/Deathstroke, Chella Man as Jericho/Joseph Wilson, and Joshua Orpin as Superboy/Conner Kent.

Filming is expected to begin next month ahead of a premiere later this year.

“Stargirl” was rumored to initially be premiering this Fall, but that slot will be going to the second season of “Titans” in the early Fall and the animated “Harley Quinn” series. Before that, we’re getting a Friday May 31st premiere of the James Wan-produced “Swamp Thing” series, and a July 2nd premiere of the return of “Young Justice: Outsiders”. Also the first season of Syfy’s “Krypton” will be available to stream as of April 5th on the service.
