Nice to know they are still finding Australian censor clips.

Unlikely, I guess, but lets hope more WHO turns up in this way......

This is the FULL reel of clips removed from episodes of Doctor Who by the Australian censors recovered by Damian Shanahan in October 1996. As well as clips from various now missing episodes, it also includes sequences removed from existing stories such as The Dominators, The Invasion, The Ambassadors of Death, Terror of the Autons, The Mutants and The Sea Devils.

DISCOVERY 454 - Letty - Complete 6 part Series

I have known Avril Rowlands for ten years, I have even been to dinner parties at her house, but it never occurred to me to ask her if she had a copy of Letty that she wrote in 1984. DISCOVERY 453 – It’s a Knockout – Heat 5, Cardiff
Originally transmitted 21.08.1970

The BBC’s holdings of domestic ‘It’s A Knockout’ programmes prior to 1975 are very patchy indeed, with only 8 editions (from 52) surviving in some form between 1966 and 1974. The situation with the international series, often referred to by the BBC as ‘Jeux Sans Frontières’ to distinguish it from the domestic competitions, was much the same. Prior to this new find, the BBC held just 6 from 60 programmes, only 4 of which contained English commentaries. However, all editions (1965-1982) are held in European archives, with commentaries – depending on the national archive – in Dutch, Flemish, French, German and Italian.

One particular recording, in French, of the fifth JSF heat of 1970 from Cardiff (broadcast live to Europe on 5.8.1970 and shown later on BBC1 on 21.8.1970) has proved to be of particular significance, as the last 45 minutes of the programme features no French commentary and the sound cuts instead to the audio feed from the British venue and the English-language presentation by David Vine and Eddie Waring. (Additionally, the English commentary can also be heard in the earlier section at a lower level under the French commentary.)

The edition, staged in the grounds of Cardiff Castle, featured a British team from Lowestoft, who had qualified for the international event by narrowly beating a team from nearby Great Yarmouth in May of 1970 (a programme which is lost, though film footage of the teams’ training survives in the East Anglian Film Archive and can be seen on their website).
The French holding of the 1970 Cardiff ‘Jeux Sans Frontières’ is a B/W film recording, somewhat zoomed in on the image and lacking definition. However, it has been possible to combine the soundtrack from this recording with a colour videotaped source from Germany, resulting in a colour recording with that has been returned to the BBC archive. There are, however, three short sections of damage to the German videotape, each resulting in a loss of picture, and the missing footage at these points has been reinstated from the French B/W source.

This recovery sees the earliest surviving English language commentary from the ‘Jeux Sans Frontières’ series retrieved and synchronised with a colour recording thanks to the efforts of Alan Hayes who has worked tirelessly to create this restored version.

Missing Believed Wiped: The Scaffold, Live at the Talk of the Town
The latest lost TV find is a musical comedy special.

Fresh from rediscovering lost editions of Morecambe and Wise in Sierra Leone, we welcome Philip Morris, raider of the lost TV archives, who will reveal some of the secrets of finding great British TV shows that had previously been ‘lost’ - and show clips from his greatest finds. From the missing Morecambe and Wise shows to lost episodes of Doctor Who, Morris has unearthed some of British television’s most valuable hidden treasures and now presents his most recent find, The Scaffold, Live at the Talk of the Town. Unseen for 50 years, this is a BBC recording of the 60s group whose unique blend of pop, poetry and comedy made them regulars in the charts. We are delighted that the Scaffold – Mike McGear McCartney, John Gorman and Roger McGough – will join us for this special presentation.

Morecambe and Wise - Be Wise Don't Drink and Drive (1963) | BFI

Published on Aug 14, 2018

47 seconds of pure comedy genius, this recently rediscovered Morecambe and Wise public information film, one of the earliest drink-drive campaign films, hasn’t been seen by the public for over 50 years. The original 35mm film was found in a box of 1960s cigarette advertisements recovered from Ulster Television, who were in the process of moving to new premises in Belfast. The rediscovered material was returned to the BFI National Archive via Kaleidoscope, the classic TV archive based in Birmingham, and is preserved as part of the Central Office of Information (COI) collection in partnership with The National Archives.

Just watched the three episodes of Dad's Army recreated with new cast, original episodes were lost, and for these remakes the scripts have been followed exactly. It is very impressive, McNally and Bathurst playing Mainwaring and Wilson are spot on. But Kevin Eldon as Jonesy takes the honours. Timothy West as Godfrey is okay too.

I am trying to imagine Arthur Lowe playing Hugo Lang, but I just don't think it works the other way around... . :emoji_confused:
