I’ve been watching Classic Who on Brit box. And the best thing about it? There was a glitch in the system and I’m getting it for free! I wonder how long that will last.

So, there was a thread on Tumblr with a story about a woman who found a cage and feared a pet had been abandoned, so she went to rescue it. Instead of an animal, she found a tarantula, and felt bad for it and helped it. The thread consisted of people admiring her actions. I reblogged it, saying that I would have set the damned thing on fire.

Sooooo, as one can imagine, I am now an asshole. The OP sent me a PM gong on about how they keep tarantulas because they are "beautiful" (eye of the beholder, I guess?), and I didn't need to write such "violent shit" on their post. Checking the post itself, I saw that several people were calling me out for being a coward and callous. Apparently, having a mental disorder - which a phobia is - is something we can make fun of. People overlook all of the posts I have made about animals and against animal cruelty, or all of the posts about human rights and politics, but I tell them that yes, I would have no issues whatsoever burning a spider to death (not an animal, a fucking demon), and I'm the new Adolf. Fuck, I hate people.

Jesus fucking Christ. Some people take everything too seriously. This doesn’t sound like such a great community.

Like just about any internet community, it has its ups and downs. There are some really great blogs for everything I'm into. Politics, horror, movies, comic books, music, sci-fi/fantasy, Atheism, etc. (Alas, Tumblr has recently decided to shut down all porn blogs because of the influx of underage porn, and Tumblr decided to just to stop all of it instead of actually doing their jobs and checking blogs - a decision which has horrible repercussions because now their bots are targeting LGBTQ+ blogs and fan arts blogs for some reason) You get a lot of cool people, then you get the alt-Reich asshats, the radfems/TERFS, and the knee jerk reactionaries from every position on the political spectrum. I'm just dumbfounded that someone will actually get riled up enough to call someone out because of fucking spiders.

Crazy update!!! This clown PM'd me again, and just went to town. I'm a horrible person because I could have just blocked seeing the post, I'm violent and apparently want to harm cats and dogs (WTF?!?!?), I can control what I post online and didn't need to be such a terrible person, tarantulas are adorable, harmless little fluffballs (Extreme WTF?!?!?!?!?) and some other shit I just skimmed over. I could have kept feeding the troll, but I did the adult thing and marked their message as Spam, so they and their brand of crazy is blocked.

You know, I can get riled up about silly things, especially when they matter greatly to me. But I feel like this jagoff singled me out for a really stupid fight. I don't sit and PM every fucking alt-Reich jerk I see on their just to point out how much I hate Trump. I don't PM every TERF and tell them that I have family who are trans, and that their bullshit remarks about trans people are not only hurtful but destructive. I don't PM every religious blog and bombard them with Atheist literature. But I joke around about burning a spider and suddenly I get treated like this? *sigh* Some days, it just doesn't pay to take the gun from my head and keep pretending I'm not dead inside.

This is what I hate about social media. Facebook is OK because only your friends can see your posts, and even among them you can choose which ones see your post and which ones don’t. Twitter is more problematic in that regard, in that trolls can follow you and antagonize you. I posted something derogatory about Trump, and I foolishly tagged him. Some MAGA scumbag must have reported me because my account got suspended and I had to delete the offending post. Other people I follow had the same thing happen to them.

I’m also on a site called agnostic.com. It’s mostly left-wing, and I mostly post only is specific groups with like-minded people, but occasionally I post in the more public boards (though anyone can see anything you post, wherever you post it). Somebody doesn’t like my posts so he blocked me. I was hurt, but that’s the way it is, I’m going to post what I think.

This person sounds like somebody you wouldn’t want to meet in real life. It’s pretty funny a tarantula is more important than human beings to some people. Maybe you should point that out? Or just respond to some people with a hearty “fuck you”? Or perhaps ask them if they eat meat, how can you love animals but approve of mass slaughter of animals for human consumption? As a species we’re way past the point you need to mass produce animals for food, and our practices for raising them are harmful to the environment. I say that as a meat eater who’s slowly trying to quit. Oh and by the way, a lot of animal rights activists are also Nazis.

I've never gotten the radical activists who truly believe that meat eaters should be put to death and that anyone who has ever harmed an animal should as well. I don't believe in torturing animals. And I have a grey-area stance on animal testing. Like, makeup and shampoo should never be tested on animals. But I and several family members have greatly benefited from medication that was tested on animals (reminds me of the old Degrassi episode where the one chick gets all pissed off at the girl for using epilepsy medicine that was tested on animals, even though the medicine kept her from having seizures). I would never go out of my way to hurt an animal.

But a spider. Seriously? We're not talking about an animal. It's a bug. I will take any opportunity to kill one. You know, after I've screamed like a little girl and started crying and soiling my pants.

Oh, that was the other one! They were pissed at me for referring to spiders as hellspawn! Dafuq?

I wouldn't personally go out of my way to kill a spider, unless it was venomous or dangerous in some other way, but I wouldn't hold it against someone else if they were not quite so... "restrained".

But they're still have to put on clean underwear before I'd let them inside my place for a cold beer.

I just know that I would be the one standing in an office afterwards, shamefaced.

ORGANISER: Just one little line of domino's. That's all you had to do......

Other than that, while this is impressive, at the end of the day, it seems to me a colossal waste of time, effort and energy. Just my take on it. :emoji_robot:

I'm always impressed when I see someone put in the time and effort to do these displays, and the actual falling of the dominoes is oddly satisfying for me to watch, but I know that I certainly don't have the patience to do this, and like you, would find it a waste of my time. I guess I'm okay with someone else having nothing else better to do. :emoji_wink:
