OCTOPUSSY AND THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS.

Like the novel THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN, this collection of short stories was published after the death Ian Fleming. It’s not a particularly strong ending to the original book series, but due to the circumstances, that cannot be helped. However, there are still one or two highly enjoyable stories included in the collection.

OCTOPUSSY

James Bond is assigned to apprehend a hero of the Second World War, who is implicated in the murder of an old friend and the theft of a cache of Nazi gold.

THE PROPERTY OF A LADY

James Bond comes up with a plan to discover who the Resident Director of the KGB in London is, by attending the auction of valuable jewellery - crafted by Peter Carl Fabergé - at Sotheby's.

THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS

An unusually morose James Bond is to assigned sniper duty in West Berlin, to help British agent 272 escape from East Berlin.

007 IN NEW YORK

James Bond muses about New York City and his favourite recipe for scrambled eggs, during a quick mission to that city to warn a female MI6 employee that her new boyfriend is a KGB agent.

Various elements from the short stories OCTOPUSSY and THE PROPERTY OF A LADY were combined together into the feature film OCTOPUSSY, while the short story THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS was greatly expanded into the film of the same name. Meanwhile, other elements from all of the above listed short stories - including 007 IN NEW YORK - have found their way into various James Bond films over the years…

Lord of the Flies.

Never actually read it despite it being one of those books where you probably already know the entire plot. I was a little underwhelmed to be honest. There's some nice stuff in there but overall, nothing spectacular.

Bully Pulpit by Doris Kearns Goodwin.

I started reading it a little over 2 months ago and will probably finish it in a little over a month from now, I bet.

After that I will start reading the Lord of The Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.

It has, alas, been too long since I have read a proper novel, simply because with work and family life, and my wasting time on YouTube, streaming TV and internet message boards (heeheehee), I don't get much time. Graphic novels, however, I read the first collection of the Marvel Darth Vader comic book and Flash: Rebirth.

I did, however, dig out my copy of Dirk Bentley's Holistic Detective Agency to finally read (got mom's copy after she died), so I can then binge the first season of the show and do my usual "This sucks compared to the book" old man speech.

The Disaster Artist: My Life Inside The Room, The Greatest Bad Movie Ever Made by Greg Sestero and Tom Bissel
If you have eerv seen The Room, this is a book you need to read. Its a great insight in the filming of this amazing terrible movie and the weird friendship between Greg Sestero and Tommy Wissau.

I own and have read both THE DIRK GENTLY HOLISTIC DETECTIVE AGENCY and its sequel, THE LONG DARK TEATIME OF THE SOUL. They are both every bit as enjoyable as the HITCHHIKERS series and always worth a re-read later on down the line.

However, do yourself a favour - skip the TV series.

:emoji_relaxed:~ I am currently reading Gerald's Game by Stephen King. I am almost done with the book. So it has been quite intense and deep ride. This novel has been in my reading list for some time now. After I'm done I will see the film in Netflix. Has anyone seen it or read the novel?:emoji_nerd:

Interesting. For some reason I hadn't read the books, despite being a big fan of the Hitchhikers series. I just started watching the series and have enjoyed it so far and was thinking of picking up the books. Sounds like there's some difference between the two?

From what I saw of the TV series, there was no similarity between them at all. However, I didn't even bother to finish the first episode. Apparently, the TV series was cancelled after just four episodes.

As for this latest attempt, I won't even bother. The TV series is American - the novels are British... No thanks.

The one I'm watching is the Netflix series which appears to have 8 episodes. And yes it is American but at least they had the sense to cast a Brit as Dirk.

“The bitch is dead now.”

I've just finished re-reading CASINO ROYALE by Ian Fleming.

I'm now ready to move on to LIVE AND LET DIE again.

I like CASINO ROYALE, but it isn't my favourite Ian Fleming novel. I think that honour goes to either FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE or OHMSS.

Does anyone else on this message board actually read any of the 007 novels?
Just Finished: The Game Plan by Bill Polian
Reading Now : Earth vs. Everybody by John Swartzwelder
Reading Next: Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk by Ben Fountain.

I finished Hawksmoor by Peter Ackroyd. It took a bit to get used to the way it was written(the old english chapters), but it was an interesting read.

I just finished The Fire Next Time by James Baldwin. It contains two essays written in the 60’s concerning race and religion in America. It was very good.
