A series seems a much more natural place for this character than a movie. The longer (and slower) narrative gives time to explore a variety of societal themes that are relevant to the character, as well as plenty of room for action.

I've only ever seen the original movie of this (none of the sequels inspired me) but this has the potential to be quite interesting if done right.

Given the Asimov adaptations so far, I'm mildly horrified that this is being considered. If it's done well I'll be ecstatic since I'm a huge Asimov and Foundation fan. I'm not sure it'll be easy to adapt though. Based on the description it sounds like it will be starting with the prequel novels...

The fact that it may end on a cliffhanger (which I would have thought was a fairly logical move for part 2 of a 3 part story) doesn't make it in any way similar to Empire any more than the fact that Matrix Reloaded ended on a cliffhanger made that movie similar to Empire.

Haven't seen it for a few years now (got the DVD lying around somewhere) but I remember enjoying it a lot. It was a pretty good adaptation, with some beautiful cinematography and Jason Isaacs perfectly cast as Hook.

I don't disagree. Probably why I liked that one despite not being a fan of the others. It's such a different series that I suspect it was originally pitched as a completely separate series and then "adapted" to the Stargate franchise as a marketing strategy. Not unlike Battlestar Galactica's...

That's a promising statement if true. Too many movies these days exist more to set up the next one than to tell a story.

Yeah unfortunately this was one episode which would have been better going into without any prior knowledge of what was coming. As it was the big reveals were fairly predictable.

I've never managed to see anything other than the original series which is pretty dated these days. It seems like the kind of concept that it should be pretty easy to make a successful contemporary series from though so it's hard to imagine why the two reboots were unsuccessful.

The only Stargate TV series I really managed to get into and enjoy was Universe, which naturally enough, was the one to get cancelled.

I haven't been overly excited by the episodes so far this series but this one really kept me enthralled all the way through. First time all year I've finished an episode and felt like I can't wait to see more.

Wow. That sounds pretty dumb. I wonder how many times it will take before someone understands the very simple concept of what makes the Fantastic Four interesting.

I need to sit down and work my way through this. Watched the first episode a while ago after being recommended but haven't had the time I felt it would take to watch it and pay enough attention to fully understand what was happening.

Well I always make sure to warn our overseas visitors about vegemite behind the ears to avoid dropbears. Haven't lost a single visitor to a dropbear attack for years now.
