I agree there are too many boards. There probably only needs to be one social board. One games & trivia. I feel like the Cinema section could be condensed (Asia, Europe, India) into International. Some of the Film subs could be rolled up into General. Universal Horror could probably be condensed into one sub. Music into one sub inside Social. Games into one sub.

What I like is the casual and relaxed conversation about movies and television without the extreme negativity found on imdb and some other boards. I like this place.

Yeah, I would hate to see this place fade away as it has a very special uniqueness.

I agree that this place needs to shrink down before it can grow again. The members will state what boards need to exist as things go along, rather than some of the boards that are just sat there unused at the moment.

I also strongly feel that Alex needs to get back to us to discuss the future of this place - as he has been conspicuously quiet and absent as of late. Hope this does not bode ill.

I would not normally be such a prophet of doom, but it has now been three weeks since Alex (who conjured up the place and had ambitious and exciting plans for it) had any activity on here and he has not responded to any messages either in that time. As he is the only person who can actually authorise any changes or improvements here this is somewhat worrying.

I hope he pops up soon and puts any concerns to rest.

I really love this place, but don't want to go to log on one day and the place is gone and would not want any of the other regulars to have that happen either.

I would rather we all made our getaways to new islands first. hence the appeal for links, in case the unhappy day comes when IMDF goes to that great forum graveyard in the sky.

Yes, I should still be Doctor Omega, Hunter, although I also sometimes use the name Cygnus Prime, named after the first and last planets visited in Blake's 7, so you may also find me under that name!

I have accounts on most of those sites you listed. I want to like Movie Chat but there are not many more people there than here but they have a lot of sockpuppets and a lot of trolls. It's the most IMDB-like in all the worst ways. 99% of the discussion is on the general board and has little to do with film or tv. Also last I was over there, the owner had been MIA for a long time (many months). Many people use social media but the nature of reddit is that discussions are short lived and old discussions are rarely visited. I don't care much for TMDB, too few subforums.

I have read all the ideas to improve this place. They are fine. But the one thing this place needs more than anything else is more people posting here. A lot more. How to get that to happen I have no idea.

We do have a facebook page, so the intention was obviously there at the start and there was talk of some kind of promotional website at one point, although the details of that and what shape or form it could have taken, I don't know. I think it came to nothing.

wow wow wow, hold on to your horses !. This place isn't going anywhere. The fact that I was not here because I was working full-time with customers doesn't mean I left this place to rust, I did regular checkups on performance, backup and uptime to make sure it is working as good as always.

I'll be working a lot less now as I'm hoping to enjoy new years eve by relaxing a little so you'll gonna see me more around here. But either way, this place isn't going anywhere. When I set my mind to some project I don't abandon it the first detour, that would be.. well... NOT me.

I already stated this and I'll state again, I created this forum as an alternative to IMDb and a long-time alternative at that. This domain and forum will be up for as long as you want. The only circunstance in which I should take this down is if everyone here stops coming and you all ask me to shut it down, otherwise, I'll continue to manage this site. The infrastructure is paid through my hosting company (me) and I have sufficient long-time projects to keep this going till my kids are my age. :)

I'll get to work on condensing the forums this week and I have new plans for 2018 as the forum software we are using upgraded to version 2.0 (big change), so I'll switch the forums to the new forum software sometime on january.. you'll help me iron out all the bugs :)

What Boards Would You Like to See on Here?





It's that time of year when some spring cleaning of boards may be due! We are considering dramatically pruning or getting rid of/combining a fair few that are just simply not busy enough.

And eventually, once the pruning is done, maybe some planting of new boards.

But what new boards would you like to see?

Maybe a film or tv franchise deserves it's own board?

Or maybe a topic not covered could do with one too?

Are we missing some tricks?

Let us know what you think of this proposed shake up? And what new directions you think we could take the boards in?

I'll be here along Doctor Omega & ant-mac to restructure the forums, plus, a big change is coming starting january as we are close to implementing the new 2.0 framework from xenforo. This will impact functionality as the forum will become even faster than it is and new stuff is coming to make navigating the forums something easier.
