Review Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018)

Seriously? $5million for 30 seconds? For movies like Mission: Impossible, Jurassic World and a Star Wars movie, I find it hard to believe that they'd reach enough additional people to justify that kind of expense, compared to releasing the trailer for free on YouTube.

    Review Firefly (2002)

I hadn't seen that interview when I first started watching, but my first thought after seeing a couple of episodes was that it was a spiritual successor to Blake's 7. I still find it hard to believe that Joss Whedon had not seen Blake's 7 when he conceived the idea for Firefly.

    Review Firefly (2002)

Regardless of whether or not Whedon was on board to do a reboot it wouldn't work. Firefly was only so successful because of a combination of great writing and a great cast with incredible chemistry. The chances of recreating that cast chemistry again are ridiculously low.

    Fun The James Bond Movies!

I don't think anybody is suggesting that. But it can be quite discomforting watching some of the early James Bond movies, which can be quite sexist and racist at times. Sure those attitudes might have been considered acceptable when the movies were made but it does make them harder to watch now...

    Shouldn't that be Jumanji 3?

    News West Side Story (2020)

I'm sorry, but for a musical (even if it is a movie) the roles require an excellent singing voice and dancing experience is absolutely vital.

    Fun The James Bond Movies!

I'd argue that the movie Bond and the Fleming Bond have been very different things for quite some time now. I don't think that there is even a question about that. Actually there might be just one question. "Sooner ... or later?"

    Fun The James Bond Movies!

Interesting article in today's Guardian https://www.theguardian.com/film/2018/jan/30/times-up-for-james-bond-is-007-too-brutish-for-the-me-too-era Time's up for James Bond: is 007 too toxic for the #MeToo era? A viral video of 007’s most misogynist moments is a reminder that this most enduring...

News D.C. DEVELOPMENT HELL: Where Super-Powered Ideas Go to Die

Although I've heard that Gotham is extremely good, I'm just not particularly interested in a superhero show that's pre-superhero. Fortunately in the current TV world I'm pretty spoiled for choice so its good to see that producers are willing to explore superhero worlds from different...

News The Very Excellent Mr. Dundee (2020)

You know what, forget my earlier comments about this being a terrible idea for a movie. It actually looks pretty funny and the cast list is great. I would totally watch this.

Review The New Legends of Monkey

Just finished watching the first episode of this Australian remake of Monkey. Made by the Australian Broadcasting Network (our public broadcaster) it takes the basic concept of the original show and sets it in a mythical world (as opposed to mythical ancient China). It's got a very different...

Review Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016)

Well if Ron Howard is able to salvage the movie, there may be still hope.

    Review Shazam (2019)

I really hope they get this one right. I've never been a big fan of Shazam as a character, but what I've seen so far about this movie looks intriguing.

Review Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016)

I'm currently working my way through the novelisation, which has a bit more space to breathe. I agree that it could have been longer. In fact, at the risk of providing encouragement to studios, I think there was enough story potential to have built it into a trilogy. But I suspect that they were...

    Review The Boss Baby (2017)

I saw this over the weekend. The local swimming pool had a "dive-in movie" night and the kids were keen to go. It's a surprisingly good (albeit predictable) movie, which picks up on a lot of the subconscious fears that kids have when a new baby is born. It was both heartwarming and funny at the...

    Review Arrow (2012)

I agree, Arrow seems to be treading water a bit so far this season. I'm always optimistic and hopefully some of the threads start to come together to build up to a compelling storyline, but its not promising at the moment.

    Review Black Lightning (2017)

Haven't had time to start this yet but looking forward to it. Good to hear that others think its good. If it upsets conservatives then it sounds even better.

    Review Arrow (2012)

Just finished watching the Crisis on Earth X crossover. I thought it was excellent and a substantial improvement on last year's "Invasion". They did a great job of including all of the characters and ensuring that they were able to interact well with each other, both those that had history...

Still not doing anything for me. May or may not be a good show but it doesn't sound like Magnum PI to me.
